Do you rely on this mechanism to find better results with losing weight/inches?

I just started measuring myself last week.   I'm only moderately obese so I am noticing my body change as the weight is coming off... so I'm not expecting a whole lot from the measurement department over the scale.

Still I wanted to try it and see how many inches over the life of my diet disappear from my stomach.   I'm not expecting a huge change elsewhere in my body.   Maybe an inch or two on my legs... and so on... but that'll only show up after a lot of dieting since I'm 6ft tall.
I did all my measurements when I started at my gym but Im not going to re-do  them for a while, bc its hard to make sure Im measuring EXACTLY the same spot, so I dont want to be dissapointed thinking I didnt change when I might just be measuring an inch higher than before or whatever.

I downloaded Fit Day and I keep track of my calories/exercise/weight/measurements through that program. I take my measurements once a week or so and it helps keep me motivated when I don't seem to be losing any weight. I'm a belly-fat type of gal so my forearms and calves don't change much at all but my hips, breasts and waist change the most from week to week.
I guess I just would like to see more results in my waist, hips, thigh area. My arms are pretty thin I just want more definition. I think I'm going to start using this method...so I can track my results. And Canonelle- thanks for the fitday site suggestion!
italianprincess, Sounds like maybe you need more stair stepping/treadmill/eliptical machine and you need to use some of the machines that target these muscles a little better.  Oh and more stretching.  Heck maybe a big cardio class as well... anything with a lot of kicking involved.
I do the elliptical/treadmill 4x a week. I take a pilates class, a cardio kickboxing class, and a hip hop dance class. LOL And that's not including my lifting sessions...

I guess I have to be patient. After taking off fall/winter from working out, and only getting back into the game for 3 wks. I shouldn't be too pushy for quick results.
ive started measuring from the start, measuring on the first saturday of the month, so i have something to look forward to, and i was so surprised about how many inches i was losing. so even thought ppl are not losing weight, they can be losing inches.
ItalianPrincess, Maybe you are doing too much and not giving your legs a chance to rest?
I only hit up the gym 4-5x a week?
For me somehow tape measuring never really works... I have lost around 42lbs but my waist has only gone down by 3-4inches and my hips by 2.
measuring isn't working for me either.  I'm down 15 lbs and the most I've lost from anywhere is a 1/2 inch.
Unfortunately, inches like lbs take awhile to show...I've been measuring myself every month since I started in Jan...I'll measure again this Sunday and I know I'm going to see big changes just by how my clothes are fitting even though the scale hasnt'l showm but maybe a 5-6 lbs loss...When I measured last month I had lost 13 inches overall from the start....This month I've had to tighten the arm strap that hold my mp3 player cause it kept sliding down...so I  know I've lost at least there!

I know it's hard but just be patient!  Like everyone says, we didn't gain it all overnight and it sure isn't going to come off that way either....
I don't measure myself, but I buy pants in a smaller size in advance. For example, in the beginning of losing weight, I wear size 12 pant. Now I am tight size 8. I have a size 6 pant in my closet and I will try it on from week to week and see how much more I need to lose to be fit in that pant.
To be fair, I have too.

My scales have broken and are showing me at 62 stone xD

It is more accurate though, as I have quite recently discovered when I thought I'd put weight on but I've gained muscle and lost inches.
