To tell the truth I think the current trend with tattoos will have an end with a lot of regrets for a lot of people.

Please dont get me wrong - I am by no means conservative, I was a punk in my youth and most people find my other views shocking.  I am usually known as a "bleeding heart liberal".

I dont encourage my son with tattoos (I dont have a daughter) but I would be supportive if he got one when he is older.  But I would NOT be encouraging a YOUNG child with tattoos!!

Holy cow even "grow up skipper" was pulled from the shelves because of parental disapproval. Her only crime was having a bust line that could "grow" when you rotated her arms.

Lets not be crazy about permissiveness.  Tats for tots?

Frankly I think this is in the worst taste and ill thought out.  Tats are permanent.  Tats are for ADULTS who are can make logical decisions about their own bodies

Childeren should not be influenced regarding an issue that will affect them for the rest of their lives in a potentially negative way.  Barbie influences girls, no doubt about it.

Whats next?  "My little plastic surgery kit"?

Honestly I like it.  Really goes to show Barbie can be anything she wants.  And that different isn't bad.

Looking at other adults there's still a lot of intolerance regarding tattoos even with them being a lot more popular.  I wish I knew what happened to the old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" because a lot of folks forgot that one.  I've got 6 and depending on how my hair is and the cut of my t-shirt, parts of 2 might be visible.  You don't even want to know the rudeness I get at school picking up my kids or at functions.

It's funny because I'm the most down to earth person.  I don't care what other people think, it's just hard trying to explain it to my kids.

a butterfy on her shoulder, though?  i think barbie got that tattoo for her 21st birthday and has been covering it up ever since.

So this is a bit off the subject,  but what about those fun little "press on tattoos" that you can get through the little toy machines? (sorry, I can't think of the name!! it's the one that you put a quarter or two into and get a little plastic ring or toy) or all the little stickers that are marketed for girls to stick on their faces and bodies? "tattoos" for kids have been around for quite some time and this is just another venue. Personally, I loved those stickers and tattoos, but it certainly did not influence me to get my tattoo or my next!

And really - shouldn't we be concentrating on more important issues out there right now? How about the new candy "craq" or however it's spelled that looks like little packets of street crack - it's even sold in little clear plastic baggies!!

Those press on tattoos were always the diggity bomb!Laughing

Wink

Didn't ever encourage me to get a tattoo!..Oh wait....Never mind. *remembers the one on the back of her shoulder.....Embarassed

Lmao! Nah, seriously toys never influenced me to do anything and if anything it won't make little girls go out and get a tattoo later on they'll just have fun sticking the tattoos all over the place. Ha Ha.

I mean come on..They had a Ken Doll that shaved his beard, no girl was taking a razor to her face trying to be like that masculine thing of a man! At least...I don't think so.

G.I. Joe didn't make all the little boys of the world join the army either.Tongue out

To be honest though, if I am truly jealous of one thing in this world it would be Barbie. That b**ch has and can do everything!Yell

Tongue out

i had a couple of barbies when i was a kid, but i could take 'em or leave 'em.  i always preferred lego.

but my best friend and her older sister were into barbies, so i played with them when i was at their house.  i have one vivid memory--and this is not pretty--of my friend janeen telling me (she was a little dictator) that the black barbie was the maid.  no ****.

what's worse?  janeen's parents were in a mixed-race marriage (japanese-caucasion), so you would assume that her immediate family was anything but racist.  and she grew up to be very socially aware and responsible.  who knows where that came from?

the point is, i guess, kids are influenced by everything.  blaming barbie is kind-of scapegoating.

plastic surgery doesn't compare to butterfly stick on tattoos.

If I had tattoo barbie when I was little it would have probably kept my barbies from having mass orgies, gangbangs, and lesbian encounters.

My parents always said to something that I wanted (tattoo for example) "you can have one/that when you're 18." So after I turned 18, I got my tattoo. Problem solved.

I don't see how this doll would effect children any different than make-up barbie or the barbie with color changing hair. I never wanted to look like barbie... I always thought she was pretty but I knew she wasn't real. ;)

Schnooder: I am guilty of this also. Embarassed

LOL Schnooder.. I made my barbies 'hump' (as I used to call it) all the time!

This is hilarious.  My daughter has got about 18 barbies, mostly characters from the Barbie princess and Fairytopia movies.  This is just another "character" to sell more Barbies.

I think it's kind of silly, but let's put this into perspective.  It's a doll.  The stickers can probably be removed from the doll.  The "tattoos" for kids are washable.  Kids recognize the difference between temporary and permanent.  My own kids love those little temporary tattoos they sell.  I used to like them too and look at me, I'm tattoo free at 35!

I think Barbies are way behind friends, parents and teachers in terms of how much influence they have over our childrens future.  If you don't like it, don't buy it.  At the same time, children should be made aware of all the consequences of getting a real tattoo.  You don't see a lot of them in the "corporate world" that's for sure.  People may have them, but they're hidden.

Tattoo Barbie Causes Outrage In US

I don't see anything wrong with teh barbie. They're stickers! Kids play with temporary tattoos all the time. I don't understand why it's a big deal.

what ktcort said, i don't see what the big deal is and wouldn't have a problem buying one for a kid.

This isn't the first time that a tattooed barbie has caused controversy. I still have one that I got in 1998 called "Butterfly Art Barbie."It was one of the last Barbie dolls I received. I'd grown out of the whole Barbie stage even though I had little sisters who still played. I still played with my little sisters but not for the fun of dolls. Just for the enjoyment of sisterhood,Lol. It also had raised a tiff (as well as sold out before Mattel pulled it due to the controversy). It came with sheets of tattoo butterflies and flowers that you could place on the Barbie and the Barbie displayed in the box had one on her lower exposed midriff.

So here we are a little over 10 years later and they're doing it again...

Maybe they need to put out a Kat Von D (of TLC's LA INK) Barbie :)

I <3 Barbie.

Children should have an assortment of toys/dolls/barbies,ect. I do not think a child should be given one thing. That's poor parenting that caused the overload, imo. The lack of variety can cause an altered mindset/strong hold on an impressionable child. The best thing we can do is make sure we're the biggest voice/influance in our children's world. To those anti-Barbie haters out there: Leave Barbie alone. Stop being a blame shifter! :) Stop buying toys and expecting them to raise your children. This is just my humble opinion on the matter.

They have a Barbie with tattoos now? That's kind of like...I dunno...when the preppie girl tries to prove she's "bada$$" by bragging about how wasted she is or taking a hit off ajoint, but she's still pretty lame anyway. I bet it's a tattoo of a heart or a rose or a butterfly. Maybe a unicorn.

I think tattoo barbie sounds rad.  Plus, if the stickers are washable then kids won't be stuck with permanent marker drawing all over their dolls.....like mine had.  I used to put tattoos on all my dolls.  Now I have one tattoo, its on my foot and I love it!! I thought about it for 3 years before I actually got it, and I think my homemade "tattoo Barbie's" unfortunate tattoos that never came off might have had something to do with that.

I think kids will end up doing what they want to do regardless of the influence of a little piece of plastic.

I was never any more obsessed with stick-on tattoos than any other kid, yet now as an adult I ended up pretty heavily inked and pierced. It was a matter of personal choice and an appreciation for the way beautiful art can look on the human body.

That being said, I think the tattoo choices for Barbie are sad and already gender-specified, with some fairies, rainbows, and flowers. How is that art? That's just a stereotype.

If Barbie influenced us all that much, none of us would be fat, we'd all be perfectly manicured, and we'd live in pink houses.

On a side note, have you seen the "Cougar Barbie" video on YouTube?  It's hilarious.

Ok. That was f-ing excellent. Cougar Barbie pole dancing! Yikes!
