Tattoo Barbie - what's your take?
I'm getting one for my granddaughter! I think she should have a pierced belly button, too!
What's your take?
Barbie’s piss me off. Period. That’s' the idea of beauty? People say they don't effect kids but look at woman today. That’s the idea of what most woman want. They might not think Barbie, but look at the amount of cosmetic surgeries that is done each year trying to get pretty much that same body. But I don't think that the tattoo will effect kids to much though, reality is they probably won't even notice.
I once read some study about how the average woman would have to loose a crazy amount of inches on the waist and gain an even more insane amount of inches on the bust (and blah blah blah).
Bottom line is it was this completely unattainable proportions.

But I would NOT be encouraging a YOUNG child with tattoos!
So this is a bit off the subject, but what about those fun little "press on tattoos" that you can get through the little toy machines? (sorry, I can't think of the name!! it's the one that you put a quarter or two into and get a little plastic ring or toy) or all the little stickers that are marketed for girls to stick on their faces and bodies? "tattoos" for kids have been around for quite some time and this is just another venue. Personally, I loved those stickers and tattoos, but it certainly did not influence me to get my tattoo or my next!
And really - shouldn't we be concentrating on more important issues out there right now? How about the new candy "craq" or however it's spelled that looks like little packets of street crack - it's even sold in little clear plastic baggies!!
When I was little my mom wouldn't let me wear fake tatoos. Not even those arm bands that looked like tats. I hated her for it, lol. I don't think it would have encouraged me to get a real tatoo, but I see her point. Little kids can be impressionable. The little boy I babysit wants to smoke cigs because the big boys do it. I think the OP should ask her son/daughter and son/daughter-in-law what they think. They know their kid, they know how impressionable she is or isn't.
And they make crack candy? wtf?
whaaat?!
i havent heard of her!
i so want one!
Wow - I didn't expect so many replies! Thanks for sharing all your comments.
It is amazing that a little doll can evoke so many emotions...
(loved that Cougar video!)

hey jesselou! think I'll get one for myself and my granddaughters! LOL
I think its fantastic, little girls in more then one case want to be like their mom. When I have kids, I'll be the mom with tattoos. I don't think it's promoting the idea of a tattoo, I think it's more along the lines of people are different and some have tattoos, doesn't mean you can't be friends with them. I'm all for it.
I think its harmless fun. Gosh if Barbie was that influential I would be tottering around on heels and wearing skirts and gawd knows I never have. Just make sure your granddaughter tattoos on some correct atatomical parts down below as the blank space is very weird...
I guess I figure there is more pressing things to worry about than whether people (or barbies) have tattoos on their skin... I am surprised by my attitute now that I am a parent, I tend to worry more about teaching my kids kindness and tolerance and all the rest I figure "whatever"... I would have more of an issue if Barbie had a machine gun or something...
I thought about getting a tats on my feet (I love sandals and like feet designs) but then I saw some obviously older tattoos on an older women's foot and it looked liked varicose veins from a distance so I promptly reconsidered....![]()

If I had tattoo barbie when I was little it would have probably kept my barbies from having mass orgies, gangbangs, and lesbian encounters.
schnooder - you always make me laugh!
Haha, this is totally unrelated, but does anyone remember candy ciggerettes? And they came in a little box that resembled a cigerette box with a picture of pop eye on it?
Me and my brother used to love 'smoking those', we always got them for halloween. (The candy wasn't that good - it was the fun notion of smoking ciggerettes)
Gawd, I wonder if they still sell those.
(I don't smoke btw)

Yes, I remember those....it tasted so weird and chalky.... I don't know if they still sell those but I notice they still sell 'fundip'....geez no wonder I have a mouth full of fillings...I also remember spong toffee, bottle caps, sweet tarts, little candies with fizzing stuff in the middle, pop rocks, and these little ice cream cones filled with goey stuff....all washed down with orange crush....
Oh, and 'gob stoppers'.....

they still sell them (in Canada, at least), but they no longer market them as candy cigarettes. I loved them as a kid, used to pretend I was smoking, but it didn't influence me to start smoking.
I think kids are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. Toys are just that- something to play imaginary games with. Most kids know that- how many adults do you see today that have a giant cupcake tattoed on their belly because their favorite Care Bear had one?
Meh. Tatoo barbie doesn't worry me so much. Now the Bratz Dolls......I can't stand those things. Even the name just irritates (future) mother in me.
Haha, peaches, I feel the same about the Bratz dolls. Urgh.
Mattel impressed the pants off of me with this. Have you seen their website recently?

This company understands fashion. Courtney Love's "Doll Parts" opens their latest launch video.
Doesn't mean I agree with it. But, wow! Really impressive. ![]()
