TEA . . . Which do you drink and how much?

Quote  |  Reply
Green tea, Chai tea, White tea . . . Which do you drink and how much do you drink a day?  Is there a specific brand that you use?

I've recently decided to stop my coffee addiction (since I usually have it with a ton of raw sugar and cream) and replace that part of my morning with green tea.  Been drinking Tazo, green tea, Zen flavor (without any added sugar or cream) and I've liked that so far, but any suggestions from others would be welcomed =)

If you're talking about teabags then my favorite brand by far is Stash. Here's a link:

My favorite tea, which is not for everyone - is loose tea.  Here is a link on how to brew different types of loose tea. Its really very simple and much more flavorful and you can get more tea out of it than you can with a bag. Its perfect for company, tastes great and they will think that you did something exotic and be impressed. Here you go, enjoy!

i drink green tea, and make it (hot or cold) with loose leaves.  no particular brand, but always imported.  some days i'll drink a gallon, some days none.  i really like it iced - i just brew it in a jug in the fridge.
pgeorgian do you have a favorite imported brand?
um, yes, but i don't have chinese characters on my keyboard :)

there's a really nice one that comes in a red bag with black and gold lettering.  another one comes in a green can and is just called "china green tea."  i'm in a small city with no chinatown now, so i get it at an organic health food store.
we have a chinatown here...it's full of hooters, h&m, ann taylor, fuddruckers, starbucks, and a bunch of other corporate crap.

totally off topic, i know.

edited to add (to be productive): i get my teas at either whole foods or a local organic food store
Thank you very much for the advice and links!  I'm very much a newbie when it comes tea drinking so I truly appreciate the responses =)  I'm open to any additional comments, suggestions, advice . . .

Good old plain Lipton tea, and I only drink it occasionally.
OMG :)  I love lipton tea :D  I drink about 6-8 cups a day.  I dont drink coffee.  I also like the lipton green tea called Orange Passionfruit & Jasmine :)

It's the only green tea I can stand.  I try and drink that instead of black since I am trying to up my iron levels but it's proving hard, and my iron levels show it.

TEA TEA TEA !!!
ok thanks pgeorgian I will have to check out the chinese import stores around here. I agree that imported is the best as far as tea goes. well as far as a LOT of things go, but thats another thread :)
I love Teekanne (german brand) - Rooibos + Vanilla (20 teabags for 2 $) , it's hard to come by but it tastes great. Another good tea is the Twinings - Green tea + mint, best green tea combination I've had so far, great tasting and very refreshing.

Lipton is ok and largely available, almost all supermarkets have it, but it's not the best.

ok so I am a tea fanatic! I drink at least 8 cups every day. I love earl grey tea, but Ive expanded now. P.S. the Stash brand earl grey is really really gross. Lipton is only good for your basic tea. I found that green tea is better if you buy it from a company not based in the U.S. If you're looking for green tea, oolong, or jasmine, try this japanese company called Yama Moto Yama. Bigelow is good too for earl grey and english breakfast. I recently discovered Wissotzky tea, which is really yummy too, especially their Himalayan Darjeeling.
Dkn - Thank you for the recommendations.  I haven't come across Teekanne, but I have seen Twinings green tea + mint.  I may pick up some today at the market.

Alyarulz - Thank you as well!!!  Do you have any further info on earl grey tea?  Specifically if it has anti-oxidants, similar to that found in green tea?  I don't live far from Chinatown so I will look for oolong and jasmine during my next trip there.

Many thanks again!
Apple Chai- absolutely lovely!
My choices probably aren't the healthiest in the world. First, i dont really like any hot teas, so I stick to cold.
When i can find the huge packs at Sams I buy the Fuze teas. Theres green, white, oolong, and one other one i believe. I LOVE the oolong....
And when thats not available I stock up on Lipton raspberry white tea. In bottles.
Annnnnd I go through a canister of lipton green tea powder a week. Just adding enough to taste it to my water. If I didn't, i wouldn't drink nearly as much water.

So are my choices healthiest? prooobably not. lol. Suger and all that junk added. But boy oh boy i'd never give them up!
loose leaf japanese cherry blossum green tea.

I use it sparingly because I always drink my tea very very  light. However, i find that i have to use even less pieces with this tea is very very floral. Smells like bubble gun or tutti fruiti :-)

My other usual standbys are  sachet jasmine tea and loose leaf gunpowder tea.

there is this chinese tea that is also very good, I dont know the name of it in English, and besides at Chinatown, I've only found it in one non Chinese tea speciality store. Name roughly translates to metal goddess.

Another good one, is this fruity blueberry tea. It is basically pieces of blueberry and also the stem parts from the flower (i think?). Very tasty

I drink tea almost all the time.. of course, I am used to drinking veyr very weak tea, so i suppose its okay for me :-)
I personally like Chamomille tea. Apparently it has lots of health benefits too. Well, that's what I've heard anyway. I'm not sure where you find it though. (My boyfriend's parents just have a stash...)

I drink it plain or a little sweetened. If you don't use artifical sweetners, then I find it tastes better with honey, not sugar.

Happy drinking!

I think every type of tea has anti oxidants in it, but green tea and oolong tea are the best. Okay I'm a really big nerd because I learned this in my botany class last year, but the difference between black tea, green tea, and oolong tea is how long the tea is roasted. Green tea isn't roasted, that's why it retains more anti-oxidant power than all the other teas. My best friend is Japanase and her mom always said that oolong tea flushes all the bad stuff out of your body. Oolong is roasted too, but only for half the duration of the black tea roasting time. A tip on drinking jasmine tea, make a whole bunch of it and refrigirate it. It tastes soo good and refreshing cold!
Good Earth have really great tea.. I drink their green tea all year round =)
I am a tea fanatic!  I love teas from asia especially: green tea (leaves and matcha), jasmine tea (hua cha), pu'er cha, oolong tea, shou mei cha, bai mu dan, I could go on and on!  I would definitely check out your nearest asian grocery store.

How often?  About 1/3-1/2 my day's worth of beverages are tea.  Certain teas are good iced, but I would never ice pu'er cha.  It's just not the same.  So I drink that in the air-conditioning.  The other 1/2-2/3 is composed of light juice beverages and diet colas (guilty pleasure).
i drink green tea and half a gallon a day because the jar i make it holds half a gallon...
