Teachers - Having trouble now that you are back in school?
I worked out 1.5 - 2 hrs a day all summer, lost 2 dress sizes!!. EASILY could lose 2 more w/o being considered too thin! But, now we're back at school. I leave the house at 6:30, - 6:45 return at 6 pm sometimes 7. Make the mistake of sitting down and it's all over. Yes I have papers to grade, lessons to prepare. BUT I'm worth an hour a day!!
So lets get motivated! I can't be the only one! I'm goint to get up 1/2 hour earlier and get out the door for a 45 minute walk. My strategy is if I get myself going, I might get ready faster in the am. Let's hear from all of you!
How are you going to conquer your dllemna!?
i worked for 6 years in an elementary school where we had a run/walk program that the whole school participated in. twice a week we all changed into running gear and went out 20 minutes before the lunch break. the wee ones ran (or walked) laps of the school field while the older kids did a 3k route in the community. if kids were too pokey to do 3k in 20 minutes, it cut into their lunch hour, but we had plenty of kids who would do 6k or more (not in 20 minutes, obviously. but they liked running enough to do it on their own time).
as a by-product of this program, we had staff members who went from overweight to fit. we took staff and student teams to a nearby 10k: the first year, we were the 2nd fastest teacher team; the second year we won. even though we had one of the smallest schools in the district, our kids consistently kicked ass at track and soccer.
just a suggestion, but it was a very simple program that did a lot of good.
what an awesome school to support you like that!! I teach hs math/computer science. I have kids waiting for help in the am, and stopping by after school. Lunch periods are all varied. (Not making excuses, just setting the stage). So, it's up to me, to find the strength within, to get up & do it. Thanks for sharing!:0)
I also did really well in the summer. Now I'm over-whelmed with everything and not excersising much. I need to get up earlier in the morning to get a workout, but I'm so tired I just keep pressing the snooze alarm. Weight is just not shifting. Been pretty good about food, but without excersise it's just not happening.
I wish we had a program like you do at our school. Would be great if physical fitness were a priority. Problem would be in the winter. Hard to do in the snow.
we continued through the winter, but as a club rather than as a whole-school program. the inclusive program started up again as soon as the snow was off the roads. obviously, you need a supportive administration.
Hey there
Why dont we start a group for teachers on here, being that we share so many challenges????
