Tear-jerkers
What songs make you cry, no matter how often you listen to them?
"Butterfly kisses" (I have a daughter who is growing up WAY too fast) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgZftrobqlg
"Last Kiss" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0B-hJ_gotc I know, I know, this one's corny.
"Don't take the girl" by Tim McGraw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0B-hJ_gotc This is why I usually refuse to listen to country music.
"Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlHdjjHNEC8
Wow. I sound like an incredible sap.
Well, what are your favorite tear-jerkers?
There's a song by Canadian band The Weakerthans called "Virtute The Cat Explains Her Departure."
A friend introduced the song to me shortly after my cat went outside and never came back home (the friend didn't know about that at the time, so she wasn't purposefully trying to make me cry.)
That was several years ago...and I still have trouble listening to the song. :) It's beautiful, though.
i only cry at songs if my pms is especially severe
Oops.
I thought there was a pretty decent chance that this topic had already been covered, but I didn't realize it was quite so recent. My bad.
I can't listen to "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart anymore. I honestly just can't. It was my mom's favorite song. :/
The song "butterfly kisses" makes me nauseous...I'm sorry, but if I have to watch one more father daughter wedding dance to that song, I'm gonna puke. It sounds a little too incestuous to me...Ew!
phylbean- Nothing personal! ;)
I always get teared up when I hear "old lange syne" by Dan Folgelberg. Makes you think about past loves...

I dislike that song immensely! It's one of the worst songs ever made, imho.
These days... it's "Happy Birthday" that makes me cry
I cry at any song played during the father daughter dance at a wedding. My father passed away 6 months before I got married. 14 years later I still excuse myself during this part of the reception. We went to a wedding in November and I thought I could handle it but couldn't. Anyway....
the cat's carol... kills me!
My country's national anthem... I get all teary eyed and if there is a flag raising at the same time I cry.
"Breathe Me" - Sia
Saddest song I've ever heard! And I don't know why, but Modest Mouse's "Ocean Breathes Salty" makes me cry. I think it's because of the video too, it reminds me of when I was growing up so it means a lot to me.

I have to ask, do either of you have daughters?

Yes, I do. I have a daughter and I actually have four sisters. My father also died the summer before last. It's something that I struggle to make peace with myself. There are songs listed above as my favorites that make me cry due to the loss. I also dislike Olivia Newton-John - I Honestly Love You. annnnd yes... I honestly love someone. I've felt, given, and received love!
It's awfully presumptuous to assume to know anything about my life based on your love for a song.
Side note: I <3 Olivia Newton-John, but I dislike that song immensely.
phylbean- No. I do not have a daughter, but I do have 2 neices that are like daughters to me and 2 sisters and a father... Believe me, I could have 10 daughers and would still Hate that song.
enchantingimage- your baby is beautiful.

Thank you! I'm such a proud mommy. The song In My Daughters Eyes by Martina Mc.Bride chokes me up everytime. Lol! It's a good cry. She puts a smile in my heart on a daily basis. I've told people that since the day she was born. So when I heard that song.. it touched me so much. It's how I feel.

-I have three neices and I still dislike Butterfly Kisses . =-P
enchantingimage- yeah! "In my daughters eyes" is my sister's song for my niece...if that makes sense. It makes me cry when I hear it bc I think of my sister and my niece.
I totally understand.
I think you might like the song " My sister " by Reba too. I heard it for the first time driving and had to pull over. It reminded me so strongly of my sisters. oooh my.... Plus, at the time I was living in WA state so I was over 2,000 miles away from them. That contributed to the rush of tears! It just reminded me of so much it was a flood. :)
