Any Teen Binge eaters?
Hiii There
I used to not eat at all and i got down to a rather low weight,
however since leaving school a few month back all ive done is eat, and ive gained alot of weight.
today i started a lil challenge of not binging for 10 days, Ive completed day one and had something like 1000-1500 kcals.
Anybody want to join me?
Just to be sure, there is a difference between eating more calories then you're burning and "bingeing." There's a good article about it here:
http://kidshealth.org/teen/exercise/problems/ binge_eating.html
As you can tell from the article, it takes more then sheer willpower for the average binge eater to stop. If you want to try eating less that's good, but don't under-eat either. 1000 calories isn't enough; you need to eat at least 1500. Eating 1000 calories for 10 days will probably cause you to overeat after your challenge is done.
(edit: added text) Also, be sure that the food you do eat is healthy, don't waste the fewer calories on cookies, chips, etc. I'm sure you weren't planing on it though =). That being said, good luck, and hopefully your 10 day challenge will help you to eat more healthily.
lol,, I cant eat sweet food, it hurts my teeth, I gained weight from eating Bran Flakes, Oats and Full loafs of bread. Ive decided these are triggers and i plan to stay away from them:)
hahaha, I've gained weight eating bran flakes before too, actually. Maybe try eating food with more protein? You'll feel fuller. ![]()
lol Bran flakes are evil in a box.
why are they so dam addictive!
yeh i bought some tins of tuna earlier,, i wont eat eggs because i had a weird dream about eating a boiled egg, it was gross.
:D
I used to be a binge eater.... And it got worse when I went on birth control pills (Stopped taking it). I also binged when I had emotional issues.
I haven't binged since... I want to say the first week of June? I had a break up recently and I'm surprised I didn't binge to deal with it.
So I'll stick around for support.
PS: I gained weight from eating a lot of cereal too.... Special K of all cereal!
haha cereal is so delicious.
I used to binge eat too. Actually, I don't know that I would go so far as to call it binge eating, but I frequently ate and continued to eat until after I was full. It's a horrible feeling when it happens several times a week. I started binge eating in the fall of 2007, and would do it on and off until this past fall. I've pretty much got it under control though, and I have such a lack of willpower. hah, so just know that you can do it too, but it may take time. ![]()
Unfortunately I binge eat sometimes too.. I will join this club. I want it out for more than just the gross feeling but it often leads to me purging which is the worst cycle ever to get in. Eurgh.
well im on day 3 now, feeling rather proud, im snacking on dried fruit,
my mum bought me a 500g bag of dried fruit today and with 1400 calories in the whole bag its definatly a binge trigger so being sencible me i got out 9 little plastic bags and shared the big back into individual bags and im limiting myself to one bag a day :)
i feel rather proud of myself :)

Stopping the over-eating is one thing. But it's not good to go from over-eating to under-eating. This is exactly what can cause a binge.
For the record, teens need a bare minimum of 1500 calories. This is the bare minimum. males and teens who are moderately active actually need more than this.
Support each other all you want, but make sure you are at least eating the minimum.
Binge eating serves a purpose, that's how I see it.. It could be a way of comforting yourself, numbing difficult feelings, punishing yourself, rebelling.. It could be your body signalling that you need more food.
Good luck with getting healthy. :)
PS. Cereal is a big one for a lot of people, I've heard, me included! You can beat it.
