As a teen, what do you do to EXERCISE?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, hey! I just want to know what kind of exercises that the teens here do to try to lose weight.

For me, I take a 10 min fast-walk to my bus stop from my house at around 6 AM, and practice tennis for 2 hours straight with the school team (under the hot sun x__x) at 3-6 PM. Whenever there's no practice though, I fastwalk home (which is 1.5 miles away) to make it up.

I've recently bought a jump rope too so I'll be fitting in a jump roping session after practice too. ^.^

Maybe just 30 mins to an hour though.

Tell me your stories, habits, and schedules! ^____^

EDIT: Oh yeah, I also have the tendancy to stand up instead of sitting down whenever I use my PC computer...and do random squats now and then. >_>

I'm still at home, and am not allowed to do anything except walk and swim (I had a surgery 6 months back, and I'm not quite 100% yet.)

-walk around the house as much as possible

-go up and down stairs purposely

-DVD exercise called Walk Away The Pounds, and it's basically a half hour brisk walk in place. Very good at getting my muscles worked out. At some points, I jog in place, but then go back to walking.

-Squats here and there, and right before I go to bed, I do a series of leg exercises on my bed (leg lifts etc.)

I would be doing a bunch of crunches and such, but the surgery was on my spine, and I'm no longer capable of bending that are of my back to crunch (they placed metal rods on my back, for a severe scoliosis problem I had). Other than that, I diet like crazy, and weigh myself 10 times a day.

Haha, I should try standing up while I use the computer! I'm on it all day in order to study..

I'm a video junkie, so I do:

- Belly dancing! Right now I have 3 Neena & Veena videos, and 1 Amira videos. I'm not really good at it, but I'll do it on the days when I want a light workout/don't feel like working out. It always puts me in a good mood. :D The videos usually are 30-60 minutes.

- Turbo Jam! I do Turbo Jam nearly everyday. I've been jammin' for 4 months now, and it's still really intense for me. The workouts are 20-40 minutes, and I'm always drenched and tired afterwards. Sometimes I don't feel like doing it because it can be so hard, but I get back into the groove of it eventually.

- P90x.. I actually only do the Yoga, Stretching, and Arms & Shoulders. I kind of don't like doing them often though because I end up sore for 2-4 days afterwards. Dx It's always a really tough workout, though.

- DDR. I don't play often, to be honest. I only play when I'm absolutely sick of everything else and I want to play for the fun of it. It's a decent workout, I suppose.

Those are my workouts. :3 I also like to get up and dance when I have the time during the day. Keeps me in a good mood, and less restless during my study sessions. I also now walk up to the park 5 days a week to play tag with my friends when they get out of school.

I play softball twice weekly and lift heavy weights at home. Plus I ride my bike everywhere.

i go to the gym, do the elliptical for 30 minutes and then lift weights on the cuirct.

i also walk around alot, and walk my dog for an hour.

i also mountian bike for exersize when i dont feel in a gym mood.

im noy trying to lose weight, im trying to maintain it/gain it.

Hm. My new schedule is going to be swimming a couple of times a week, strength three times a week in a split schedule, and resting on the weekends. [: My mum is planning to take my sister and I to yoga and pilates, too. Should be interesting - I have no balance!

I am also trying to gain weight, so my focus is on muscle building. ^^

everyother day i do half an hr on elliptical, sometimes an hr. on the odd days i do like fifteen mins of weight lifting on my arms and twenty on my core in addition to abbout 25 mins on elliptical =) i occasionally walk too.

Most days I get up early (or right after school so I feel refreshed before I hit the books) and go for a relaxing long run for about 4-6 miles. I run less if I know that I have basketball practice later which is usually about 2 hours long.

Or if I go to the gym, I do 3 sets of 15 minutes on the elliptical on high resistance (10-12).

I shoot outside in the yard if I feel like it. Sometimes I jumprope. And I lift weights about 3-4 times a week.

Other than that, I spend lots of time on the couch. And Saturdays I do NOTHING. A day all for myself to be lazy. I love it. =)

i take at least one 90-minute ballet class a day. If there's a pointe class(1 hour) after that I take that. now that it's summer and i have more time there are days when I take 2 classes.

I'm trying to get more cardio in lately(elliptical)

Well I'm not the only person who walks to exercise, its just I walk around school at like 5 mph (people laugh).  I kind of know were your coming form with the scoliosis its just mine isn't as bad, I know I won't need surgery for it.  I hope you get to feeling better soon, good luck with what ever weight loss you want to achieve!

Laura

I run a fair amount. Depending on how busy I am, I usally run around 4 times a week, but this varies, never more than six, never less than two. I average around 10miles a session, but I am increasing this (hopefully going to run a marathon in June!)

This is pretty the only scheduled exercise I do, but I walk in and out of town, to the supermarket, etc. I walk a lot in school too, and a lot of this is up steep stairs with a fourteen pound bag on my back! I also play with my cousins a lot.

I walk around school like a mad person, all my classes are ridiculously far apart!

I run around 25 miles a week I guess, typically around 5 miles a run. However, sometimes I'll go either longer or shorter.

I also do strength/circuit training twice a week with a trainer, and a different cardio excercise (spinning, elliptical, stair stepper) 1-2 times a week.

I sometimes do stairs as well in my free time! I usually do about 30 (down and then up counts as one) fairly quickly, and if i do it more than two days in a row I'll up it by five each time.

I try to go either longer or faster anytime I do anything, just so I can keep increasing! A favorite of mine is running barefoot on the beach, and swimming laps but those are mostly for summer.

i dance like a madman (woman) .. ballet, modern, jazz, musical, lyrical, contemporary, coreography, and technique classes occasionally.

when school starts, i'll have volleyball several times a week and games.

i run 30-60 minutes a day, stretch loads, and walk around a lot.
i also ride my bike places when i can.

I do an hour of weight training every day at the gym then later that day after work i go back and do 10min cardio, but im trying to gain weight (muscle) instead of losing weight.  my cardio is usually on a treadmill, i hate the elliptical machices =[

I like to do a workout DVD (preferably something focused on cardio excercise), then I get on an elliptical and go for 45 - 65 minutes at an average of 8.5 mph, and then I do some kind of weight training exercise.

My favourite workout DVD is any kind of dance exercise with Jennifer Galardi. I also like the Biggest Loser Cardio Max and Power Sculpt. I've never watched the show, but the workouts are intense.

When I was a teenager I used to step up and down on a milk crate for two hours every night.  I also joined Curves with my mom and would go three times a week.  And, of course, I walked or took my bike everywhere, and if I had the opportunity to be gone I would be.  It took me three hours to walk home from school.

These days, I stick with riding my bike through the park, abusing the employee gym, and wearing out my husband in every way imaginable. :)

i walk a lot. 7 miles of walking 4mph every day in addition to my walking fitness class, which i have every other day.

and if it counts, i do jumping jacks/situps/pushups in the morning before breakfast and at night.

but other than that i'm 100% sedentary.

I walk a lot. I hate, hate, HATE riding in cars and kind of get panic attacks while in them. I either walk, jog, or skate to places in town (now that i'm closer to town, it's not that bad, but now it gets upwards of 104-107 F by 10:00am >.< )

I go to the gym occassionally, but it's a crapshoot when I can go. Also, I do lots of chores around the house, and I tend to run like a ninny around the house.

I occassionally swim, but a MAJORITY of my exercise is met through Roller Derby. I'm on a hiatus until my skates are fixed, so now I'm stuck pretty sedentary :(

I run three days a week with my friends and lift weights three days a week.  I LOVE running with my friends.  I wouldn't be as fit as I am right now if I didn't go running with them.  They push me in a subtle yet fun way.  I also go to a Latin dance class two times a week and just try out random exercise machines at my gym. :)

I fidget lots.

Once school starts, I'll also be walking a lot more.

I'm on my very last days of summer vacation right now, so I have plenty of time to exercise, using a workout video. But since the TV is in my parent's bedroom, I will use it when they're out, and if I can't, I would use my stationary bike. I'm just trying to avoid it right now to avoid bulk in the legs.
