Teen Question
I have one question, the question is why do teenagers have high metablolism and around what time does it begin to slow down? Because i am a 17 year old boy that weight 133 and is 5'9. How many calories do I need if i do one hour of exercise and do i need to worry about calories at this age? Is 133 to much weight?
depends how many calories u burn when you excersize, but i think teenagers have high metabolism because theyre still growing developing. even after you're done developing height/width-wise, your brain and orgrans and bones still develop, so they say that if you're counting calories and you're under 21 you should use a different calorie calculator. its been posted several times on this site (a link to a site for a "kids" bmi/calorie calculator)
but 133 really is not too much weight for your height, you could actually gain a bit. i would suggest not to worrry about calories (unless you undereat, then you should make sure u eat enough!)
I don't believe teenagers have "high metabolisms" so to speak, it's just that our organs need more energy then an adult does because we're still growing (if not externally, but internally). We generally stop growing at 21.
You're at a good weight right now for your height. IMO, you should try to maintain and gain some muscle of you feel you're too "flabby", but that weight is pretty good.
For your activity level, eat 3090 to maintain your current weight. If you still want to lose, subtract 500.. 2590. Don't eat less then 2090. If you'd like to gain weight, eat 3590. :3
Here's the handy dandy calculator for future reference:

It's your choice whether or not you'd like to pay attention to calories. Being generally mindful of your choices and making effort to be healthy is just as good as counting. Intuitive eating, if done right, can be liberating and make eating food much more simple.
thanks kaybug and sk33ny
I would say you don't really need to worry about calories because:
A. you definitely are not overweight and you have plenty of room for weight gain
B. you are a teenage boy :)
Dude consider yourself lucky that you can eat over 3,000 calories a day. :D
thanks for the reminder, i will try from now on to worry about nutrition instead about calories and focus on eating healthy instead of counting calories. Like they said eat eighty percent healthy and have fun the rest. Thank you guys for your reminder. I will try to gain weight a little to 145 and make my parents happy. Also is 145 a doog weight
