Quote  |  Reply

hey :) I'm 17 and I run for half an hour everyday, and walk for about 40 minutes a day. I eat A LOT of calories though :( I just had a bad breakup and have been eating like 3300 a day....(I know)....I feel really crappy about it. what is a normal amount to eat for our age and fitness level if I want to weigh about 120/130. I'm 5'9.

Thanks!!! :D

How much do you weight right now and I can tell you a good amount to eat every day to get down to your goal weight.

at 5'9 120 lbs is a very very light weight. 130 is a better goal, even 125, but you'll get blown away at 120!!! im a runner too. i've been trying to eat more, because i think i screwed up my metabolism when i lost weight that didn't need to be lost through extreme restriction and starvation diets. im trying to work my way up to 2000 cals a day for maintenance after i've gained about 10 back. i usually run for 30, eliptical for 30 and 15 mins of the stairmaster.

best of luck to you!!! message me if you have any questions!

well I haven't been feeling too good for a few days and my eating is really screwed up so I haven't been running for a good 4 days. I usually eat 2000 maybe more.. I just logged the stuff I ate today just to see how much and it was about 1600... so yeah around 2000... :)

last semester I lost 15 pounds in two months because I was "in love" now I gained it all back and more, I'm really small boned even though I'm tall, and I weigh 150 now :'( I've never been this much but I'm hoping will power will kick in, I've just gone away to college and had the breakup, I think that's why, but I'm just making excuses lol

This is with your information from about.com's calorie calculator thing to see how many calories you should be eating every day to get back down to 130:

You need 2133.3 calories per day to maintain your current weight without exercise.

You need 2048.2 calories per day to reach your goal weight slowly and maintain that weight without exercise.

If you reduce your current caloric intake to 1633.3 calories per day you will lose one pound per week without exercise.

If you increase your current caloric intake to 2633.3 calories per day, you will gain one pound per week.

If you exercise for 30 minutes each day, you may increase your caloric intake to 2362.5 calories per day and still maintain your current weight.

If you exercise for 60 minutes each day, you may increase your caloric intake to 2649.1 calories per day to maintain your current weight.

If you exercise for 30 minutes each day, you will be able to reach your goal weight with 2267.2 calories per day.

If you exercise for 60 minutes each day, you will be able to reach your goal weight with 2541.1 calories per day.
I'm 14 and on my school's track team. I've been trying to stay around 1700 a day, but somedays I eat like 2700 worth of junk = \ I feel really crappy about that too because I'm really trying to stay in shape for practice and meets = \

i eat around 3500. but idk i have at least 4 hours of soccer practice (intense) almost every day. i do muscle work every other day. the doctors tell me that my metabolisim is the fastest they have seen. my Bmr is something around 2500. LOL i weigh about 130 and im 5 10 i have 7-8 percent body fat.  you can eat more calories if you integrate certain foods into your diet, drinking 3 cups of green tea a day. makes your body burn an additional 200 calories. eat lots of foods with natural enzymes like pineapple and papaya, drink a large glass of lemon water at least 2 times a day. after each meal walk around your block or something, walking after a meal cuts the time it takes to digest it in half.

^^^^A BMR of 2500 is hardly the fastest metabolism ever. lol.

There are people who are totally sedentary who need 4000+ calories a day just to maintain.

that's crazy. i thought uping my intake to 1400 was a lot! and those people that eat 2000 i couldn't even imagine how much food that must be! i guess if you're a bigger person though the food seems smaller, huh? haha.

I'm eating 3500 to gain weight. Apparently I can maintain on 3200.

Keelee, get real or get out. 1,000 ain't enough for anyone, especially a TEEN who EXCERSICES. Undecided

I run and walk everyday and sometimes swim too since I LOVE it and the weather is getting so nice now. I eat 3,000+ calories to maintain. Even when I'm sedentary I can usually eat 2,800-3,000 to maintain.

im in cross country and track and run an hour or more a day, but i usually eat around 1300 t0 1700- and that seems like enough cus i always have alot of energy, but ive been told that if i exercise and dont eat enough- the muscle is eaten away- instead of fat- can anyone explain cus it doesnt really make sense to me - im 5'4 and weigh 125 btw

im not overweight or anything but i wanna lose some fat and build muscle --

any advice???

Due to the ancestral roots we all share, our bodies will shut down and go into starvation mode if the body feels as though it is not getting enough energy (food). And, since muscle burns much more efficiently than fat, of course the body will use its muscle mass first as it will sustain the body longer. If you want to build muscle and lose fat, you should never have 'cardio days', instead, you should always begin your workouts with strength training, alternate muscles on alternate days, and finish your workout with no more than 20-25 minutes of cardio done at a FAT BURNING PACE, which usually means your heart rate is somewhere bertween 130-145 depending on age.
