Hi,

first off, im 5'4, 111 lbs, and pretty active. i burn about anywhere from 3-600 calories a day. usually on the higher end:) Im eat a lot too. 1800+ whatever i burn - about 100. Im ALWAYS hungry though. honestly, im like a bottomless pit.

do any other teenagers feel this way? or just anybody in general? does anyone have experience with eating more than their maintaince level, but still being able to maintain their weight?

thanks,

beana

I'm no longer a teenager but when i was i could eat all day everyday, unfortunately i also packed on weight that way.  I used to be able to eat an entire box of kd in one sitting and not think anything of it, and then be hungry  (or think i was hungry) a few hours later.  If you are burning calories (which it sounds like you are) then just be cautious of the quality of food you eat.

omg i swear i could eat forever and never stop! im very active too, i play varsity sports, volleyball and swimming all year, and then i weight lift too.  just last night i ate soooo much! and the thing is half the time i know im not that hungry but if the food is there i can eat all day and not feel like full.  ha i hate it, so i really have to watch my calorie intake and portions otherwise i just dont stop eating haha.

hey jackie!

if you dont mind me asking, what are your stats? u know, height and weight? and when you say "eat a lot", what do you mean? like, what do you eat on an average day?

sorry im just really curious....tehe

hey beanaparker, okay well im 5'10" i can be anywhere 150-155 lbs. and as far as how much i eat, i try to aim from 1800-2100 calories, but sometimes i think thats not enough because if i go into "maintenance" than i gain all the weight right back, but the other night it was really bad, ha it wasn't a binge or anything, but i was at a party and they had pizza and this chocolate covered popcorn that was amazing and macaroni and cheese, and well i probably ate a good 2500+ calories at that party along with the like 1000 that i ate earlier in the day. which is sad, because i used to eat like that all the time, but i just am trying to be healthier about things.  i guess my ultimate goal is to just lose some body fat and tone up a little bit, im not as concerned about the scale since i am so active and lifting and whatever else.

Just remember, "maintenance" is the amount you eat while maintaining your weight.

By definition you can't be eating more than your maintenance and still staying the same weight.  (At least not long-term-- maybe for a few days) I'm guessing you have used some on-line tools (here or elsewhere) to determine your maintenance calories but those are only an estimate.

If you eat more than that and still maintain, then your maintenance calories is whatever you are eating while maintaining.
