i was just wondering if there were any other teenagers on the site who are trying to lose weight. i'm 14 and i need to loose about 30 lbs. to get to my healthy weight for my height. my friends are either all twigs or don't care about getting more fit (or they say they care but it's all bull) any other teens going through this?
Hey, I'm 17 and personally... if you're at a good weight for your height, and your doctor (especially) thinks you're at a good weight, then just focus on eating healthily and keep movies... please don't focus on the pounds or comparing yourself... nothing good comes from that, especially at that age... you're still going and if you learn healthy habits now and keep them up, with the final growth spurts you'll be just fine... but please don't go too far with counting calories or you risk stunting your growth, which i'm sure you don't want to do. So like I said, just mainly focus on eating healthy food, and keep moving... I know it's tough with friends the sizes of sticks... but harming yourself will do you no good....
Take Care :)

thanks for the care. i'm 14, 5'5" and about 160 pounds. i'm not really obsessively counting calories, i just wanted to get healthier and i was wondering if any other teenagers were also. don't worry, i'm not one of the girls who is borderline anorexic/bulemic. just wondering, you know?
hey, I'm 16. I agree with the above. I mean, you're pretyy much in ok range for wieght, and it's fine to want to get healthy, but don't obsess. I have been strugglgin with an eating disorder for some years now and it's not fun. But health is a good thing. just do what feels good and stay healthy.

Hey, I am 16. I am so glad that I am not the only teen that is watching what they eat. It seems like all of my friends can eat anything without gaining an a pound.
Alwayz has some good advice. I wish I had known that when I was 14. Maybe if you pick up a hobby that is active, like swimming or karate or just walking. Something to get you moving around more, but is also fun at the same time. From what you said your height and weight are, sounds like you are going to be tall! :) ( I am so jealous ;) )
I don't know what your eating habits are, but the next thing I would suggest is just try cutting out one thing that you eat or drink on a frequent basis that is not fitting into your new healthy life style. I watched Dr. Phil a couple of weeks ago and he had a teen age girl on the program. She ate alot of fast food and was pretty sedentary in her life style. He showed her that if she just cut out the burger she ate like 3X a week and all the soda she drank, and replaced it with healthier alternatives. She would loose 30 lbs in a year, by just doing that much.
And last but not least, Don't beat yourself up if you eat something that maybe is not as healthy as you would like it to be. We all eat things from time to time that aren't that healthy, but usually we just try not to eat as much of it and/or as frequent as we use to.
I haven't been a teenager in quite some time, but I just wanted to send you some hugs and wish you luck in becoming a new and healthier you!!!

Hi, I'm not a teen, I'm 21, but I wanted to comment on what you said about your friends saying that they don't care about being healthier, but you know they really do. I find that the hardest part of trying to lose weight and become healthier. A lot of my friends act as though I'm crazy and developing an eating disorder, because I'm concerned about what I eat now and exercise everday. The truth is, I actually eat a lot more than I used to.
One of my friends asked me what I was doing one morning (It's summer vacation for us university students), and I told her I was going to the gym. Her response was, "Oh that's too healthy for me". I thought it was a ridculous thing to say, because I know she and every other girl I know would love to look a little better and have more self confidence. I just thought it was rude to yet again point out that I'm making "too much of an effort", when I know she's slightly envious. Maybe it's just a young girl, immaturity thing.

Yeah, that attitude seems to be really common amongst my first-year Uni peers as well. The girls, anyways
Hi, I'm a teen - I'm 14... I've lost 10 lbs, and now I'm in a normal weight range, but I'm going to loose a few more just to make me more secure w/myself...
Hello there! I am 24, not a teen anymore! But, I wanted to comment to all you guys. BE CAREFULL! Especially when you said "I am in normal range but want to lose a few more to more secure with myself". That is dangerous. I have been struggling since I was 12 with my body image and that is a slippery slope to fall down. I am so glad you all are watching and trying to be healthy. I remember my friends then and now didn't care but they wished they had of when they got older! Good luck!

Hey, I'm 13! I feel so great finding other people my age. I'm looking to loose about 10 pounds. I'm 5'3' and going for a lower BMI...one a bit deeper in the normal BMI range. I've been trying to loose weight for a while now, it just doesn't seem to work for me. I'm still at the same weight that I started. I could really use some support from other people my age.

I'm 18, I'm 5'4 and I was 170, now 155. I'm aiming for 125ish.
Hey i know what your going through i was 186 and now i'm 139 and i want to get down to 110
Children under the age of 18 should be dieting only under a doctor's supervision. You are still growing. We are not qualified to give you advice and other children are certainly not qualified.
I think it's great that you guys are finding people to support you-- I know that I really could of used it when I was a fat teenager and still need it now as a fat mid-20's er. But Claire is right about needing a dr-- since ur still growing and all that, a dr can refer you to a nutritionist to make sure that you get everything you need and still lose weight-- in a healthy way. You should talk to your parents about your concerns too. But I think that emotional advice is something everyone needs. And dont read too much into the BMI stuff-- it doesnt account for your bone structure or muscle mass at all. Good luck to all of you just be careful, dont obsess, and talk to your parents and your dr.
Well, technically I'm still a teenager until July 19 when I turn 20. I have recently lost 17 pounds since February 1st so if you need any advice, I'd love to help :)
I just read the comment posted by the person who said their friends sort of mock them about caring about eating right and going to the gym and I just want to say that I feel your pain! I am 5'0" and currently 115 lbs. I have always been very small but last year, my freshman year of college, I gained the "Freshman 15" and then some, haha. So, during my sophomore year this year, it got to the point where I couldn't fit into any of my old clothes anymore but I had no money to buy new ones. So, I decided to lose some weight and get back down to my normal size. I am now at a point where I definitely do not feel like I need to lose more weight. However, like you, I still know how important it is to eat right and exercise every day (or at least 3 to 5 times a week). My two best friends are extremely overweight and always have been and they are now starting to make rude comments whenever I mention that I am going to the gym or if they want to get McDonald's and I tell them I will meet them across the street at Subway or something. It really brings me down sometimes but I try to just tell myself that they are just jealous and don't know how to express it. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there is someone else in the same boat as you :)
