All these teenage girls on here who are size 0 and 100lbs eating 800-1000calories a day(if that!) trying to lose crazy amounts of weight is really turning me off this board :(

I'm just venting I guess...

Can't stand seeing post after post like this

I have to say I agree! I have seen many posts where people are not eating enough and trying to get down to crazy weights. It really peeves those of us who really have weight to loose.

Yeah -- it bothers me too.  But there are a lot of positives among the posts.  There are lot of people out there who really need the support.  Hopefully, some of these Twiggy wannabees are learning something from some very thoughtful replies.
very true...

The rest of you guys have been soooo supportive and very helpful!!

Thank you to everyone who is in the same boat as I am and are all trying together to lose weight in a healthy way :)
Ok now, those girls who are posting stuff like that may not have real weight to lose, but they are feeling just as bad about themselves as the biggest person in the world might. They need guidance and support. Don't dismiss them as not needing help just because they are having a hard time with their bodies right now.
I'm not dismissing them or saying they don't need help. But this is a WEIGHT LOSS FORUM I'm just sick of seeing it every other post. Where are their parents....that is who they should be seeking help from...not an internet forum when they are only 13-16 years old.
I know what you mean. Its sad, but this is what our media and MTV are doing to young people. They really think they ARE fat. Good thing I went to school to be a therapist, they'll all need one.
I dont so much get annoyed with the posts on too low of calorie diets, as I think most people try to lose a few pounds the wrong way at some point, it is about being uneducated on eating healthy and maintaining that health.  but i do have to admit i wish people would read through previous posts before putting up the same questions day after day.  what really turns me off is the posts from teens (or anyone else, but it is mainly teens) who put up post after post on unhealthy eating, looking for advice, get told they are destroying their body, then defend their methods and don't listen to the replies from people trying to help.  Then they repost the following day or week with the same question.  It hits a nerve with me when people ask for advice then refuse to listen when people offer it up if it isnt exactly what they want to hear.  they will learn one day, too bad they will have wasted years doing it the wrong way when the right advice was offered up from the beginning.
I agree. It certainly wouldn't bother me if they came to a site like this to become educated about their health, but it seems to be the opposite. They seem to seek some kind of praise for their self-deprivation. And all the actual advice falls of deaf ears..
i know, isnt it sad? The entire self esteem issues and the Eating disorders really drive me nuts, its so sad how we live in a place where food is plentiful, and they choose to starve and die. WHile people in poorer regions beg for a crust of moldy bread.
ditto..I'm sure most of it is for attention...but where are these girls parents? It's really getting annoying!!
I find I don't read the forums as much as I used to because it really wears you down to read about it over and over again. It's depressing and unmotivating to hear about their troubles. Maybe there should be some kind of banner that pops on screen with your first post that says not to post about that since they're obviously not reading through other posts first. Maybe says that the site will only recommend eating 1200 calories minimum that kind of thing.
this is right on!!!!!

I'm not dismissing them or saying they don't need help. But this is a WEIGHT LOSS FORUM I'm just sick of seeing it every other post. Where are their parents....that is who they should be seeking help from...not an internet forum when they are only 13-16 years old.

I think the owners of this site should require parental permission for anyone under legal age, simply because we, as adults, are talking about serious weight loss solutions that can easily be misinterpreted by a teen with an eating disorder to justify the disorder or to feel enabled and vindicated.

And simply because eating disorders should not be diagnosed or treated by lay people - which is what we are.

I empathize with teens who have eating disorders, but a public bb for weight loss is not the place they should be getting the support they need.  Because weight loss is not what they need.  Duh!
I agree if they ARE actually not in need of losing weight. But, im 17 and the scale says 108-109lbs and i could definitely stand to lose weight. It actually kinda blows my mind, because even if I got to 100lbs I would still have flab (and i work my ASS off toning for 1.5hrs 3x a week in addition to cardio 6 days a week and yes I eat a safe amoutn of calories - so no, "you just need to tone up" crap).

I'm just saying, sometimes shorter people can be healthy at smaller weights. I think 95 would actually be a safe weight for me, even if all the charts don't say so. I happen to just have a very small frame, which sucks, because I thought when I hit 110 I would be tiny/thin. I am small, but I still have some lbs to lose.

I hate it when people tell me that I shouldn't be losing weight.

Not all the teenage girls on here are "size 0 and 100lbs eating 800-1000calories a day". Some of us are generally overweight and came to this site BECAUSE we werent getting the support from home and our families dont know all the answers. I know i came here because i wanted help to lose some weight in a healthy way, and was confused about what i was doing wrong. After getting some advice i realised that i wasnt eating enough and started eating more.

So its a bit unfair what your saying.
Well, I can see both sides of the issue. On the one hand, there are a lot of young females here who are walking the ED line, starving themselves in the weight loss forum. On the other hand, it's good for them to recieve all the good advice again and again about what is safe weight loss and what is not, and how to lose it safely.

Though it can get really old reading post after post from young women who are doing careless things for silly reasons, would you rather they NOT get the information we give them? You're right, their parents should be involved, their families should pay attention...but they don't. Are we going to step up and help them and fill that gap, or are we going to leave them to suffer alone?

I, for one, am going to do my best to get some sense into their heads. If you don't care to do the same, just don't open the threads. Ain't the internet grand? :)
Not all the teenagers are like this...I myself (well I'm 19, so that's barely a teen) have lost about 15 pounds since starting CC and I am certainly not anorexic, at 5'6 and 142ish...but yeah, I've replied to people that have actually not understood about the right amount of calories...and I'm glad that they are seeking help for their problems. There IS an ED board on here too, and that's good for people who recognize the problem. They need to calorie count too (but in a different way..they need to make sure they are eating ENOUGH). However, I recognize what you're saying. There are a few people who post over and over again with the "OMGZ I GAINED 5 POUNDS ON A 200 CAL DIET AND IDK Y." Posts, and frankly they are annoying and should be deleted if posted more than once. A lot of them try to defend themselves with the classic "my doctor said I should eat less!" or "I'm really small framed!" Or just ignore the criticism. Oh well, it's their body and if they want to look emaciated, that's their own thing.
What is the real issue here?

Is it actually that you are all concerned about the health of these teens?

Because it occurs to me that it only botheres you because they are 'annoying' or have less weight to lose...

If you dont like the posts...just ignore them! don't reply, block them out your minds!

Despite what you think, they're not out to get you!

Hello scritbgnia9 and everyone else,

Unfortunately posts like that come hand in hand with weight loss communities like this one. People who eat too little (sometimes purposefully, often because the media and diet industry tells them this is how they need to lose weight).

I can promise you that you won't find much better than a board like this. This board is a VERY positive boards where people can get the help and motivation they need to keep going. We have alot of success stories, and alot of wonderful people who devote time to try to help others.

There will always be people doing unhealthy things, or people with unhealthy goals, until such a time as the diet industry stops trying to sell us on unhealthy fad diets and stops flooding us with pseudo-science and unhealthy ideas.

Please consider staying, and just working to ignore the others. If you need help, motivation and succeed, you're in the right place. You honestly are. :)
I agree, some of them do upset me a little - But they do still have problems that need understanding, support and encouragement.

A lot of these girls hate/dislike themselves or believe or are told that they have issues with their body and most of them believe that.  They need just as much support and encouragement as those of us who are here to lose significant weight.

Perhaps they don't realize that they aren't fat, they are at a healthy weight.  (most annorexics look into the mirror and see an extra 100 lbs on them)
