Turned 16 in February. Nearly 5'10 and about 129.

I finally got over an ED last year and reached a stable weight (and finally have all my muscle back! =). Sometimes I am not comfortable with it and would like to lose about 5-7 more pounds, but I just have to convince myself that I look better right now and that my body is healthy.

I eat about 1800 calories a day to maintain with about a half hour of physical activity a day, but once or twice a week if I feel like it, I let myself indulge and hit 3000 or more (with all nutritious foods except one of my choice). It's a strategy to let go of the ED completely and be okay with feling full. It's helped a lot and gets me to an average weekly calorie totaly of 2200.

I' 17, 5'1". Currently weigh just over 120lbs. Hoping to lose about 12 lbs.

When I started CC I had no idea how to lose weight properly... I've always struggled with my weight and never beat my ED demons. But I've learnt a lot and safely lost around 7 lbs already. So I've still got a while to go, but fingers crossed.

I'm aiming to eat around 1300-1400 a day, plus 1 hr of exercise. Does this sound like a suitable amount to lose healthily (and not gain when going into maintenance?) I'm new to this, and I really want to do it right, but upping my calories is kinda scary.

17 and a half, 5'8 and a bit... 171 llbs 1200-1300 calories a day.

Blagh.

I'm 19, at stand tall at a whopping 5 feet hehe and I weigh between 100-103...I eat 1400-1600 a day and I work out 5/6 days a week for about 1 hour and half easily...I love to work out :)...some days though I eat a bit more but it's normally healthy stuff ( I am addicted to apples and veggie sandwiches)

i am 5'4, either 130 or 127 - 129 lbs. and i eat 1500/1550 cals a day

I'm 16 years old, I stand a tad under 5'5, and I weigh 130 lbs. I'm not looking to lose weight because I am of a healthy weight, my doctor raves about my stellar health, and my body has growing still to do—internally and outwardly--that dieting would only challenge and possibly stunt. I consume 3,000-5,000 calories per day and I am active for up to 7 hours per day depending on the weather, my transportation needs, my job, and how much biking I feel compelled to do. It's a hassle to eat so much at times, but it's important for the sake of my well being and my sport.

Why is it so horrible to be good to our bodies, guys? Striving for a certain weight or measurements isn't going to improve ANYTHING that you may think it will. Please try to put things into perspective...this is your HEALTH that is at stake, and I truly hope that you all do not restrict/mutilate yourselves in ways that you'll later regret.

Thank you, Missmagill! Seriously, the absolute minimum teenage girls should be consuming is 1700 calories- and that's if you're sedentary!

Hey I'm 5'7 weigh 130lbs and I get about 1,400 calories a day.

I'm 5'8, my weight is about 225 and I eat 2,600-2,800 cals/day and losing around 2-3lbs a week.

if you're 13 i know brains aren't done growing yet and you're not as capable of rational thought, but you are in starvation mode. killing yourself. a girl in my eating disorder recovery group who had a heart attack eating 800 calories a day. get yourself help. you need a MINIMUM of 1500 to function. MINIMUM.

2,500. (Trying to gain) 15, 101 lbs. (GW 110) and 5'5 :)

I am fourteeen (;

I eat anywhere between 2000 & 3000 calories a day to maintain, even on day's I don't runnnn. I am 5'8 and 118 lbssss .

turning 20 in 9 days, 5'7" 127lbs and about 1800cals a day

I start to wonder, if you're 20, are you supposed to eat under the recommended calories for a teen or an adult? what about when ur 21, which way do you go?

i mean i'm sure ur metabolism doesnt just switch from one day to another when u turn 21. Just something i thought of one day and just wanted to hear what others think

Suzy- Your body still needs extra calories for growth and development (inner and outer) until you are 21 years of age. Until then, the adult calculators are inaccurate for you. :) Have you ever plugged your stats into thiscalculator? It was created for 21 and unders! It does take your age into account, and with every year older, the caloric needs calculated go down a bit (unless your weight and height have changed, of course). You can enter in fractions of your age, too, such as 19.5 years old and 20.25 years old, but that's rather excessive. The difference isn't that massive anyway. :)

I'm trying to gain too.

I am 15, 5'6, 101-102 lbs, and I eat anywhere from 2400-2800 calories a day

:)

Age - 16

Weight - 145 (Trying to gain) more muscle mass.

Usually 2000 - 2500 a day depending on physical activity.

I am 5'10 or so

I'm 19, 5'10" and 193 lbs. I eat anywhere between 1700 and 2200 calories depending on the amount of work I've done.

It's been working gradually and I'm losing at a healthy pace, last april I was 260 lbs. I plan on getting to 180, maybe 175, as that would put me at a minimal body fat percentage. That would be ideal for martial arts.

My daily workouts vary depending on how I'm feeling but it generally consists of,

Jogging, Natural resistance training and Calasthynics.

some weight lifting,

on top of that I've got martial arts training three times a week, two hour sessions.

Though that child BMI chart is telling me that I should be eating a lot more.

I'm 16, 5'2" and recovering from anorexia. I eat about 1500-1700 right now (trying to get up to 1900) and have put on 13 pounds. I run 2 miles a day and stretch/lift weights for 30 minutes.

To those girls who eat 800 kcals a day: stop/get help before it's too late. you're hurting yourself, and by hurting yourself, you're hurting the people who love you most. stop before it's too late, or you will really regret it like I do right now. you may feel high now, but when you start suffering from hypothermia and your hair starts falling out, trust me, you won't.

I sincerely pray that you folks are joking...

I'm here to back up missmagill and show that the proof is in the pudding so to speak.

You guys shouldn't be looking to shoot below 1500. I'd recommend 1800 for most of you with exercise for a small deficit IF YOU TRULY need to lose weight. I mean like dr's recommendations.

Take it from somebody who knows. I used to be 257, and lost almost all of it through a 1200 calorie diet. Over the span of 4 years, I developed a binging and exercise bulimia problem that I'm still trying to get out of. Looking back at my eating habits, it really doesn't surprise me. I swung around to the other end of the spectrum, and got a little underweight for my frame. At my lowest I was 132, 5'9", with a relatively big frame.

What missmagill says about not depriving your body is ESSENTIAL. It truly is still growing. I thought I was done growing at 5'8 3/4...I stayed there for about 3 years when I was loosing weight. During this past year during my caloric restoration/ gaining weight, I started acknowleging (albeit sometimes unwillingly) that I couldn't afford such a huge deficit anymore- truth be told my body won't let me anymore. So I started eating more, moderating my exercise, and WHAMO! Last height measurement I got I was 5'9" 1/2.

You guys need nutrition. Bone health, regular periods, general energy...take it from somebody who's learned the hard way and enjoy taking care of yourself.

P.S.: BMI is a good basic calculation, but not anywhere near ideal for what you need for health or a prediction of what you will look like. Currently around 142, 5'9", with a bmi of 21. Profile pictures are current. Eat calorically cycling according to appetite, usually averaging between 1800-2500 a day. At a bmi of 19.5 I looked and felt sick. Be good to yourself.
