Mayella - your body is probably still in starvation mode, if you are maintaining on such low calories.  I checked on this chart and you should be eating at least 1560, if completely sedentary -- that is, lying in bed all day. More likely you are doing some activity and if so, you'll need 2000+.  You may gain some at first but it will even out as your body gets used to more calories.

I'm 20 years old but I eat 1900 cals a day. I currently weight 160lbs (from 185lbs) my height is 5'7.

bleh..i'm 5'3,17.the last time i checked i was 56 kg. hv been trying not weigh myself since i've started increasing my calories.used to eat around a 1000-1200 i don't know why im not losing the 2 pounds though (i was 55 kg when i started),im currently maintaining around 1400-1500 cals.my goal is to get it up to 1650 but i feel tempted  not to as the 2 pounds i put still has not disappeared even after a month.so much for

Alot of you guys don't eat very much! And that's not a good thing.
I try to eat 2000 cals a day but usually end up eating 2500! :S
I'm 5'7 and weigh 140 and am trying to get back down to 130! I've gained 10 pounds in the last year, and it SUCKS! But I've been cutting back my cals and excersising so I'm on the right track. :)

Age: 19

Weight: 106 -107 lbs

Height: 5'5

Calorie count recommends I consume around 1500 calories a day, I have about 1400 - 1500 each day. I don’t do any exercise at all, apart from walking around to and from lectures and driving home. I spend a lot of time sitting down studying at home; so I guess this explains why it’s quite low. I am not losing any weight (god no) just trying to maintain.

lovelife380: 1400-1500 is a weight loss diet. if you are maintaining on this amount it's a sign that your body is at a superficially low weight and not at it's natural weight. Increase your calories to at least 1800 if you're maintaining without exercise.

I think your concept of “natural weight” is slightly ambiguous, for weight depends on food intake (as you will know) and food intake depends on appetite/habit and of course necessity. In my early teens I was around 115lbs which crept up quickly to reach 125lbs “naturally” around the age of 16. Which weight is natural? I see the gain as purely because of generally flamboyant eating habits (I have always eaten healthily and am a vegetarian), yet it is still in the healthy range for my height? I think you mean an “ideal” weight which often ranges up to 10lbs.

I’m not losing any weight and I gain weight by eating 1800 calories (for I spent months eating this amount a couple of years ago for that very purpose). My weight is not “superficially low” I eat without feeling discontent or malnourished. 1500 calories is by no means a weight loss diet for my body, I simply do not lose weight on it as I don’t need more to survive. Thank you for responding though and taking the time to read my post.

I think you're missing my point. Someone could be underweight and maintain that weight without being hungry and that doesn't make it natural. Call it what you will (natural or ideal) but my point is that someone who is naturally your weight should be able to eat at the maintenance level for your stats without putting on weight. If you gain weight from eating more its likely because you're either malnourished and youe body is clinging to the energy or you have blunted your metabolism.

hi, i'm kind of new.

i'm 18, 130-135 lbs.

5'0"

yeah i know i have some weight to lose

i'm naturally muscular so i want to have leaner, longer muscles instead of bulk, do you guys know what kind of exercise i should be doing? i run 1-2 miles 3-5 times a week and do ab and arm workouts.

i'm eating around 1,500 cals a day

any help at all would be greatly appreciated :)

tinkerbell: try doing yoga and pilates or calisthenics.

really?! ok cool thank you. there's a free yoga program at my school but I never knew if it was actually a good work out for weight loss. again thank u very much.

chrissy1988: As I said in my first post, calorie count states my maintenance (which I stated was around 1500), here it is:

“You burn 1530 calories during a typical day. Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and your average level of activity.”

Therefore I do eat at my maintanace and do not put on weight; 1800 has not been recommended as my maintanace amount.

Just to let you know, CC's calculators are not made for people under 21. A better calculator for you would be: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html

While your current intake is not very far from your real maintenance, the lowest amount of calories you should take in a day is 1600, and that's if you're in a coma.

I'm 16 years old. Approximately 5'11" and weight 130lbs. Is that normal...?? I have a flat stomach, and am happy about that but I feel like I should be smaller. My family and others seem to be concerned that I want to be skinnier.. I try to eat around 1800 calories daily.

I am 22,   do a one hour gym aerobics class about 5 days a week and have 1 - 2 days “ off” where I walk or hike instead

Burn about 450 - 600 calories per day

1620 is about my maintenance when I am sedentary.

So on top of that, I eat back the calories I burn through exercise.

So I usually eat about 2000 - 2300 a day

Height: 166 cm, or about 5 ‘ 4 - 5 ‘ 5

Weight: 52 kilo’s, or about 115 lbs

LOVELIFE  -  you do not understand the concept about natural weight.   Firstly, you are UNDERWEIGHT. Your BMI is UNDER 18.5.     You should not be trying to MAINTAIN it.  You are not giving your body a CHOICE or a CHANCE to reach its “ natural” weight…..    Because to reach its natural weight,  you need to eat enough to see if your body does want to be heavier…

If you gain on 1800 calories, than that is not a lot for a 5  ‘ 5 girl/women.  1600 is bare min for that height, SEDENTARY.

You are under weight , and you do not know that it is your bodies natural weight; because you are only giving your body enough to MAINTAIN… so you are not LETTING your body tell you if it is in fact your natural weight.

BMI of 18.5 is the lowest end of healthy for almost EVERY women. Like 90% of women.

Only a few women are BMI of under 18.5 naturally.  Most women need to restrict or over exercise to attain a BMI that low.

If you gained to a BMI of 18.5,  which is about 114 lbs,  and you were able to eat at LEAST 1630 sedentary at that weight, than it could possible be a healthy weight for your body. Even than, your body may naturally be healthier a little higher. BMI 18.5 is very slim!

Trust me - medically, I know that you need to get to the BARE MINIMUM BMI,  and THAN eat the  maintenance for that BMI, to see if you can naturally maintain on the normal amount of calories.

If you gain weight at BMI 18.5 by eating the recommended amount, then your body needs to be higher. Other wise, it would not gain weight on the normal amount.

17 yrs, 5'6", 117-118 lbs. Losing on 1400. But this week on tuesday I might have gotten up to 1700. Normally I get about 4 hrs of workout a week, but this week I did nothing
