Tell me what to do in cleveland ohio!!
I'm going to cleveland for a few weeks (work related), staying in the embassy suites off of quarry lane. Other than getting the chance to see lake-effects snow, what is cool or interesting in this city?
- Restaurants?
- Coffee houses?
- Architecture?
- Historic sites?
- Art scenes?
- Hike and bike trails?
- Brew pubs?
- Is there a commuter rail?
- Tours of shipyards?
- Anything?
What to do in Cleveland?
LEAVE!
Sorry, I just really hate Cleveland...

dammit... i was afraid of that. Hey... didn't u do the happy dance when the dems won boths houses? i think i remember you.
Yeah, it was very happy and very dancey.
Sorry for the bad news about Cleveland. Maybe there was a lot I missed when I was there? I'm more fond of the bigger cities, like San Francisco and New York, so maybe I didn't give it a fair chance.

I don't know if that helps or not. The museums might be good, and depending on when you're up there, they're putting on a play version of "A Christmas Story", so that might be fun.

If you're into art at all the Museum of Art is awesome. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. See if there are any concerts or games playing at Gund Arena. There's plenty there. :)
A cleveland MoA? Sounds like an oxymoron.
thanks for the tip.
thanks for the tip.
Cleveland has a very fine orchestra, so that's someplace I'd be heading were I there.

I've been to Cleveland several times. My best friend lives up there. Anyway... You can go to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. It's a bit expensive but fun if you're into music. Umm... Hard Rock Cafe. There's lots of cool bars and stuff in the downtown area. I don't how old you are but if you're into bands and such, the Grog Shop is a great place to go for shows. My friend said they redid the bar there and it's fabulous. Umm... what else. It's getting kind of cold out. If you're into sports there's hockey teams up there and you've got the Browns and the Cavs if you're wanting to check out a pro event.
There is a commuter rail there. I like it. And I think it's like $4 for a day pass maybe. Someone else mentioned art... The Andy Warhol museum is in Cleveland... I think that'd be fun.

andy warhol museum. awesome.
Their Little Italy is fun, it has a bunch of art galleries and restaurants. It's a cool place to spend a few hours. They have an AMAZING market, I can't remember what the name of it is, though. One huge building dedicated to produce and another with dozens of butchers/bakers/whatever. It's fantastic.
Also check out Big Fun in Cleveland Heights on Coventry Rd. Possibly the coolest toy store I've ever been in. It's full of old school toys and other kitchy stuff. You have to check it out...
edited to add: I was there in March, and it was freezing. Bring plenty of warm clothes...

If you're into thrift shopping Cleveland has some great thrift/vintage shops.
I'd see the Rock n Roll hall of fame...
I grew up in Cleveland and, although I don't live there anymore, I miss it alot. It's actually a fun and vibrant city.
The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the best in the world. Unfortunately, it's closed for a huge renovation. They have one gallery open right now showing an exhibit of art from Barcelona. I'm definitely going to check it out when I am home for Thanksgiving. http://www.clevelandart.org/
If you are into theatre, check out what's playing at Playhouse Square. There is usually a Broadway style play showing this time of year, as well as other shows going on. Also check out the Cleveland Playhouse or Dobama Theater if you are into newer or more experimental theater.

The Cleveland Orchestra is also world renowned and plays at one of the most beautiful concert halls I've ever seen, Severance Hall.

There are plenty of great museums in the University Circle area including the Western Reserve Historical Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Botanical Gardens. All of them are excellent. There's also a really cool building nearby designed by Frank Gehry. Little Italy is also nearby with lots of art galleries, antique stores and excellent restaurants.

The Cleveland Metroparks have miles of biking and hiking trails including one that follows the Ohio Canal from Cleveland south all the way to Akron and beyond.

The Coventry area is a lot of fun. It's where the Grog Shop, Dobama Theater and Big Fun are. There are also lots of restaurants, including Tommy's which is the best vegetarian restaurant in town, and lots of antique stores and bookshops.

The market that Zooyork81 was talking about is the West Side Market. It's on West 25th right off the Carnegie bridge. It's only open on certain days but its well worth the trip.

Your hotel is actually in Independence, which is a suburb of Cleveland about 15 miles south. You are going to need a car to get around. There is rapid transit in Cleveland but it pretty much runs west to east, from the airport through downtown and east to Shaker Heights, it doesn't run south at all.
Ok, well now that I sound like a tour guide, I'll stop. Have fun in Cleveland!

wow, fantastic ideas all! thanks much! i'm alot more enthusiastic now. i gotta pack tho, no time to discuss. where's my gloves? i can't find my gloves. or my coat. or my hat...anyone seen them?
it will be nice to wear my bush defamation garb and not get looks from good ol boys with shotguns hangin in the back winder of their pick-em up truck, a bit disconcerting to say the least... texas is forever a bush state. austin is a sizeable island haven of liberals in the red sea of reps however...
meat_pillow is busy scurrying around packing. this is actually watergirl. mwahaha...i suggested he inquire here for ideas. lots of stuff to check out! thanks! rock on!
okay... THIS is meat_pillow, and i endorse the above message. Thanks cc people!

Gosh, everybody hates Cleveland so much! Well, I like it! :) I guess you pretty much got all the info you need. The place to be as far as bars go is downtown, West 6th (Warehouse District) ... . There's a big ship by the Rock and Roll Hall of fame there -- I forget the name -- I think it's U.S.S. Cod -- that they give tours of. Not sure if that's only a summer thing though ... I think you should be able to find something fun in Cleveland! Although, I know a guy who came here on business, from Texas, and he couldn't wait to get back home. LOL!
I lived in Cleveland for a few years, and really enjoyed it! It's very 'midwest', but there's a ton of stuff to do (if you know where to look).
pgeorgia pretty much hit on it all. The only other place I would suggest is the PickWick and Frolic club, downtown. It's a comedy club, restauraunt, and martini bar....all it one :)

I agree Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Also Chagrin Falls is really nice. I grew up in Cleveland heights and later married my high school sweet heart. Most of the years we raised our kids in Solon, Ohio.
In Aurora their is the prime outlet stores.
What ever you do stay warm, safe and have fun.
