Go to the advice tab and there's a calorie section and it tells you how much you should eat per day. But basically if you enter your activites daily and see your estimated calories burned that day, shoot for 500 less calories a day to lose a pound a week and 1000 less a day to lose two pounds a week. Don't have more than a 1000 calorie deficit though or else you'll never lose weight cause your body needs a certain amount of calories. Good luck!

You need around 2500 calories to maintain your weight and therefore around 1700-1900 a day in order to lose weight steadily and safely.
GI-jane her needs are definately not 2500......they are 2100-2200 id say her 1500 guess is good
We can argue the toss but someone of that weight who spends all day on their feet and and jogs 5 x a week, for 4 miles at a time needs a lot more than the 'average' 1900-2000 cals a day.

A 150lbs person with a fairly sedentary lifestyle and only doing half an hour of exercise a day can lose weight on 1400-1500.   This lady needs more.

I've posted elsewhere about calorie requirements and someone recommended the one at www.phord.com as being better than the one here.Undecided  It definitely gives much lower calorie targets and for Brenda comes in much closer to 1500 I think.

Still, I'm no expert Smile

thanks imso confused im  trying everything i just gained 4 lbs how is this possible? i jog 4 miles per day. i decided to make sure my calorie intake was more precise im going to drink 500 calorie protein low fat low carb shakes per day and my last meal make a chicken and veggies meal worth about 500 calories. but needing to know if i need extra cals to make like 1900 i was going to try 1500 but now im wondering if i should stay at 1500 for a while and then try 1900. if it does not work. im just so frustrated. but thank goodness it just makes me  even more determined instead of ready to give up.but i definitely do feel a little beaten at times. thanks for the advice

i dont get it it says i burn 2100 cals a daydoes that mean im supposed to eat 1100 only . i used the calculator it says if i want to lose my 23 pounds by sept 1 i can eat 1350 cals per day. hopefully that works i put in moderate excersize. i hope thats right i dont mountain climb or anything. i guess ill try the 1350 and see what happens. wish me luck.

Hi-

We're kind of the same I'm 5'0 and weighed 134 when I started.  I'm down to 121 as of today.  I stayed under 1500/day.  Sometimes I would zig zag my week.  When I zig zagged that meant two random days in the week I'd be at 1000 calories and then the remainder of the week I'd be at 1200-1400.  I ran 3-4 miles five days each week followed by twenty minutes of floor exercises.  I run on a treadmill and incorporate sprints into the run.  I also incrementally increase the speed (.1 mile per hour every 15 seconds) or do one minute at 7 mph, then another at 6.5 mph, and then another at 6 mph, then back up to 7.  I started on January 22.  I've lost 1 to 2 pounds per week, sometimes 3.  Some weeks I would gain weight too, for no reason, but the next week I'd be down again.  Its taken awhile but its worked overall.

Hang in there, sometime your body just doesn't get it right away.
