Tell me it's ok

Quote  |  Reply
So for the past little while I have been stuck at an ok weight of 171 lbs. The scale wasn't moving, and after a while it started to bother me. I was following my diet to the T, and through my new job I was getting some extra exercise and I became really frustrated because I wasn't loosing weight. It seemed that I had finally come to a plateau.
I posted a topic here and was told to shake up my diet for a day or two.
Following the advice I went to a family BBQ, and the next day went to Canada's Wonderland. Eating the food that I haven't eaten in over a month ie french fries, hot dog, burger, 'pizza pizza' pizza.
Today I weighed myself and came in at 174.
I am so upset with myself because it feels like I've 'fallen off the wagon'.
Was that sudden change in my eating supposed to help me loose weight?
Today I have restarted my diet and hope to see a change by next monday. I just needed to vent and wanted to know if anyone else is going  through the same thing.

that's only a 3 pound gain, easily fixed with being near the wagon for a couple days... I've done the same damage in a day... it's a hard wagon to stay close to, let alone ON, but take each day at a time, and you should see good results ;)

You are doing the right thing!! A day outside at a family BBQ and a day at Canada's Wonderland burns a lot of unseen calories too, walking around, standing in line when you would be otherwise sitting if you weren't there... keep at it!!
Zig zagging your cals it doesn't mean eating way over your maintaince.  It means change your calls by a few hundred or so.  You can 't eat junk for a few days and expect weight loss.  Plus that food probably has a lot of sodium in it and you may be retaining some water, that happens to me all the time.

shake up your workouts too.  As you lose weight you need to exercise harder to lose the weight.
I know that's very frustrating, and I would suggest that you "shake up" your diet but in a healthier way. This is what I would suggest you eat over 3 meals and 2 snacks:

  • Lean meat, chicjken, turkey, fish, seafood (all in 3-4 oz servings)
  • 7-9 servings of fruits and veggies (6 veggies and 3 fruits would be great)
  • whole grains in 1/2 cup portions
  • nuts and seeds (in 1/4 cup portions)
  • NO processed foods (meaning white bread, pasta, white rice, or anything made from a box)
  • 64 - 100 oz water
  • 3 - 4 eight oz glasses or cups of tea (Green Tea is best)
I am absolutely positive that you will lose and be much healthier on this regimen. Best wishes from my kitchen to yours!
I guess it would have helped if I had known how to 'shake up' my diet. Thank you.
It takes time. Do not give up. My husband noticed first by the way my clothes were fitting, for me the weight came off first by inches. I do not always like the scale IT must be lying, right! Or even how the slacks feel but so long as I follow the regimen I know I will see results at some point some hardly noticeable others in your face unbelievable where did it go...who cares so long as it doesn?t find me LOL
I am going to tell you it is okay.  Those foods give me "the bloat".  Drink plenty of water to flush them out and today begin again with super healthy foods.  Stay within your calorie limit and I think you will see the difference.  Remember, what it takes to loose a pound, it takes the same to gain a pound.  Good luck!
i agree with g h-ontario

it's good that u walked and u had fun toooooooooo
I find myself saying this all the time - "This is for the rest of your life"  There will always be family bbq's, vacations, trips where there will be temptations.  It's important to indulge (every ONCE in a while) that way you don't feel like you are losing out because you made a healthy choice for yourself.  I know how you feel i'm at the 165 plateau (I weighed 162 yesterday) and it can be so frustrating you want to cry.  Especially when you look back on your weight loss and it feels like it came off so quickly before.  For me my issue is I'm not giving up, that isn't even an option, but what if what i'm doing for myself has stopped working?  What then?

I would say two whole days of whatever you want wasn't the way to go. You know that now. But, I don't agree that "shaking up your diet" is still just the same ole same ole - lean meats, fruit, veggies, grains.  That's how you should be eating. When people shake it up, they eat a burger from Burger King or, like you did, eat some fries at an amusement park. It causes a "shock" to the system and for some reason that revs up your metabolism and helps you off those plateaus. I've read about people eating a big greasy burger once a week and it has really helped them a lot. Just don't go overboard like you did. 3 lbs is not that bad though. Don't sweat it. You're doing great fitting in exercise and everything.

I also read somewhere that you do have to "shake up" the exercise thing, but that doesn't JUST mean adding weights or walking faster on the treadmill. Your body gets used to things. If every day, you walk on the treadmill, then ride a bike, and every other day you do the same weight training, your body comes to expect it and it doesn't have the same effect. You can increase the incline on your treadmill more or do bursts of running. Do different kinds of stomach crunches, add a medicine ball, etc. Change everything up once in a while or once every couple days, whatever you can do.  Good luck!
