hellow hellow !

i just wanna know what u guys think about this.

im 17 years old, 5'4-5'5 (166 cm), 136lbs (62 kg), and i go to school (senior) mon-fri,& i work out at the gym 3-4 times a week (1 hour-1.5 hours of cardio & weight lift 2-3 times only like.. 30-45 mins) i burn around... 600-800 calories i suppose?

and i want to lose weight, about 10 lbs (5 kg) and i was wondering...

is it normal or right for me to be eating 1500 calories on days when im not working out at the gym??

i've been trying to eat only 1300 calories a day (when im not working out), even though after taking a test, i was told that 1500 is how much i burn when im doing absolutely nothing, just laying down in bed for an entire day. Then someone told me that i shouldn't be eating 1300 calories a day, but more like 1500 or even a bit more... (this is still for days when im not working out)

it sort of made some sense u know... but im still worried and scared... cuz i don't wanna up my calories and then end up not being able to lose weight... =(

however,,, for like 3-4 weeks... i've been working out and stuff... and tried to eat only 1300 calories (even though most of the time i'd end up eating like 1400-1500) but my weight didn't change at all. seriously, at all.

please...! help me out!!! im panicking and i think im gonna go crazy!!!! =(

Cool ANYONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ? ! ! ?

SHOW ME SUM LUV DAWLIN'S!!!!!!!!!!

Your body, as is, burns around 1400 if you laid in bed all day. If you are burning an extra 600-800 calories a day you are not doing yourself any harm eating 1500 calories in a day. You, honestly, should be eating closer to 1800 or more. You are doing fine, don't freak out. You are doing your body a favor eating more then 1300 a day. Don't worry about it.
Okay, first, take a deep breath and calm down :-)

actually, if you did nothing at all all day long, at 17, 5'4 and 138 lbs you burn 1700 calories.

burn an extra 600 calories in exercise and we're looking at 1700 + 600 = 2300 calories

so you need a deficit of, let's say, 500 calories to lose it in a healthy way.

so you should eat 2300- 500 = 1800 calories.

make sense?

cutting it back too much for too long can put you on a plateau.  Also, watch your salt, too much sodium in your diet will make you retain water and make the scale number higher than you actually are.  Also depending on where you are on your cycle will also create weight fluctuations.

- wait... do you think 1600-1700 calories would be enough for days when i work out?

Time to switch to decaf, dear.

You need to *not* get stuck where so many here are stuck, namely the minute by minute fixated calorie watch. You need to think in longer spans of time than hours or days. Think of your average over a week.

Why? Because, in addition to the fact that your body does not watch the clock and does not give a fig whether it has passed midnight, your body will be orking to eliminate yesterday's waste, today, lending your weigh ins a skewed reading. Additionally, your excercise can and will keep your metabolism revved up for hours after you are finished.

So, just to iron out the many cycles associated with weight loss, including the monthly cycle and its affects of water retention, etc., start looking at your weight on a weekly basis.

Just my nickel. Keep the change.

~ DECAFFFF!!!!!! Yell

~ girl, i totally feel you, sure!! but still.... :( it's kind of hard not to worry soo much.... especially when uve not been losign weight for almost 2 months, not because of a plateau but because ive just been eating quite a bit especially at night.

~ now, it does not mean that ive been starving myself during the day - nuh uh Frown

i just simply need some self-control...!!!

~ your body does not watch the clock and does not give a fig whether it has passed midnight    ---  i have a question... so you mean.. if my daily calorie limit was like... say, 1400, and if i had 1600 kcal "today" (as in before 12am) and then only have 1200 kcal the next day, it would be OK right? like, i won't gain weight, since i've balanced it out...?

Why be pedantic about calories if you're going to go eating whole loaves of bread and undo any good with massive binges?

::: sunkissedbliss :::

~ what are you saying? Undecided sorry im not getting you at all...!!

I think the calculators to find how much you burn while doing nothing are really off (they tell me that i should be burning something like 2k without doing anything..).

But yea, shoot for 1400-1500 calories on off days, that probably about right. (hmm, unless your still growing... i dont know too much about teen nutrition or when it cuts off... so might be higher?).

Then again, you might be miscounting your calories somewhere...thats a problem area for a lot of diets. (cheat days also kill off diets hehe).

According to the CC tools and what you've told us, based on a moderate activity level, you burn 2200 calories during a typical day. Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and your average level of activity.

Calorie Target - You should consume about 1800 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 128 lbs.

This is at a reasonable weight loss average of 1 lbs per week, which should be reached by January 14, 2008.

yes, i know this... but when i asked others about how much i should be having and how much i actually burn...  it seems that i burn 1400 during my utmost sedentary days, and then i burn 1600 kcal during normal days...

so for me.. i consider the CC's calorie information extreme for me...?

oh neat. I'm 5'4 and am now at 138.5...I'm actually thinking about 120. I'm not sure what I need to get to to look the way I want. This is as thin as i've ever been so I don't have any clue of how far I need to go! I limit my cals to between 1300 and 1500 a day. I workout on an elliptical twice a day and it says I burn 500 each time. And every other night I do an ab workout with my husband. I don't count that cause I don't know how many cals it is. Anyway this works for me. I do lose weight and when I hit a plateu for a while, I actually take like 2 or 3 days off from working out, allow myself to eat a little more and then get right back to it. It's like I confuse my metabolism into burning again. hahaha

~ oooh~ we're soooo similar in our body stats!!! that's so radd!!!! Cool

~ so tell me, exactly how intense are those ab exercises that you do wit ur hubby?

it's a dvd. This woman is crazy. I've done other ones before this one is definately the hardest. After my first baby I did this dvd every night for 3 weeks and noticed a HUGE difference in my stomach! She's really good it's just hard. :) You deifnately feel stronger afterwards though! hahaha
smiles2come - what's the name of the DVD you are using? I want to see about getting it!! ;)
