Tempeh: Can I eat this?

Quote  |  Reply

I have a package of light life 3 grain tempeh that's been sitting in my fridge for a while that I totally forgot about!  It's unopened and the date on the package says use by August 15.  Do you think I can still use it?

I definitely wouldn't, but I'm funny about stuff like that.  My husband will eat anything that doesn't have obvious green fuzz on it and he doesn't seem to suffer from it, but I dunno, it's a month past.

Oi, I definitely wouldn't. Just because it isn't showing obvious signs of spoilage, doesn't mean there isn't a ton of invisible bacteria conjugating their way to taking over the world on it.

well tempeh is basically fermented soy beans and grains, so chances are its probably alright, but i wouldnt risk it.

Thanks guys!  Guess it's not a huge loss since a package of tempeh only costs like $1.50, but I didn't want to throw it out if I didn't have to.
