Temperature & Calories

Quote  |  Reply

I've read from multiple websites that drinking cold water can help your metabolism because it burns calories to warm you back up.  Sounds logical.

I have also read from various sites that you burn calories by being too hot, since you sweat the weight away and your body is trying to keep you cool.  Other places claim that you should take a cold shower to burn calories because your body wants to keep warm.

So my question is, is it best to be hot, or is it best to be cold?  In other words, to burn the most amount of calories in a day, what is the best temperature to have?

Just wondering, why is your screenname "washboard ribs"? That's really disturbing and in my opinion, sounds anorexic.

I would worry about neither being hot or being cold. It won't make much of a difference, either way, and it's senseless to sweat or shiver just to burn a few extra cals. Assuming you are healthy enough to lose weight, just concentrate on calories eaten vs. calories burned.

Don't bother with these things. If you actually want a larger deficit, cutting out a bite of bread would do about as much calorie-wise as drinking ice water. You could also have a cup of green tea for about the same effect.

Just get to a good calorie intake and stick with it, these things are no different than increasing your current calorie deficit.

I was anorexic for a few months, and then regained healthy weight, which I maintained for awhile.  Lately I've been bingeing horridly.  I want to get back to my not-quite-anorexic-but-still-lean weight.

Thanks for the input!  Y'all are right; fussing with body temp is unworth it.
