Some people have trouble with all those 'shall's' and 'shall not's' in the Ten commandments. Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms.. So, in middle Tennessee they translated the 'King James' into Jackson County' language..... no joke, (posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Gainesboro,TN)
(1) Just one God
(2) Put nothin' before God
(3) Watch yer mouth
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'
(5) Honor yer Ma & Pa
(6) No killin'
(7) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal
(8) Don't take what ain't yers
(9) No tellin' tales or gossipin'
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff
Now that's plain an' simple. Y'all have a nice day.
This translation can also apply to Kentuckians and West Virginians.
I was born and raised in Huntington, WV. I currently live in Kentucky.
I think that these were originally called the "Hillbilly Ten Commandments"
I absolutely love the " Hillbilly Ten Commandments", I have never heard them quite like this. My husband and I teach an RA class at church and this is a topic that is difficult to teach. Their ages are 7-10 years old and they have a million questions and true the "Thou shalts" are confusing.
Thank you for this info. It is so great to be supported in our endeavor to lose weight by fellow Christians, and it is great that we also learn God's Word in the process.
You are inspiration to many, thanks for your efforts to keep us on the straight and narrow in our effort to lose weight and encouraging our spirit.
In my favorite scripture Psalm 46:10, I am always awed when He says "Be still and know that I am God..." He proves it daily.
i love the way you put it! Great translations! you made my day. thanks for the word and the smile.
