Ten lbs gone by Thanksgiving - anyone want to join me?

Quote  |  Reply

Happy Sunday morning to everyone!

A little background on me.  I am five nine, 254.4 this morning.  Which SUCKS.  I was down to 244.6 back in August, but I feel off the wagon.  I am hoping someone would like to join me in posting and encourage each other to reach that ten!

I am a married mom of a ten year old boy.  I want to be 100 lbs lighter in the not to distant future (Don't worry, I'm doing it healthy!).  I decided to do it in ten lbs increments, and when I worked at it I did great.  I really find that someone motivating me helps too.  Unfortunately I cant get that from my husband, so I came to calorie count.  I have found some great people here, and hope to continue to make more friends!

Anyone care to join me?  I thought we could post our weigh on Sunday or Monday, and list our progress.

Thanks everyone!

Hi, I'll join the group! Im trying to lose around 20lbs by Xmas/New Year so 10lbs would be a pretty good start. Im also 5'9 and my stats are:

SW: 175

CW: 160

GW: 140

Goal for Thanksgiving: 150

I also decided I wanted to get a haircut and colour when I hit 150: good motivation! What are you doing at the moment, just calorie counting, or exercising? Both? Im currently concentrating mostly on diet as I have a pretty active waitressing job, but the closer I get to my goal weight, the harder it gets so I'll probably have to add some actual exercising soon which is a bit daunting :-S

Hi. I'll join you. I started at the beginning of the year at 206 lbs. I'm down to 145. That means I'm no longer overweight, but I'm still at the upper limit of a healthy weight for  woman 5'4", and 56 years. I definately want to lose another 5 lbs., and maybe even 10 more - total. Depends how I feel. If I could lose 10 lbs. by Thanksgiving, that would be great.

Welcome Cassie and Nafabird!

Cassie, I am doing both right now.  I have a recumbant bike that I am back to riding for at least 1/2 hour a day.  I am also trying to work a walk in each day, and I have done a mile and a half walk yesterday and today.  Today has been a good morning so far, and knowing that I am going to be posting in a week what I weigh helps me for some odd reason!

I am also considering getting my son a Wii for christmas, and I hear the EA Sport work out is awesome and way better than the Wii fit.  I'm almost ready to say that will be my christmas present to myself, because at $60 that is the only way i can justify spending the money on it! However, if it helps me to get in shape and loose weight it will be worth every penny.

Nafabird, what is your secret? You ahve done awesome by the sounds of your loss!  Share any good secrets?

I don't really have any secrets. I've lost and gained weight many times. This time I wanted to, kind of, draw a line in the sand - Before and After. So I decided to go on the Slim Fast diet for about 2 weeks, then just start eating sensibly for a weight loss of 2 lbs. per week. But I was very surprised at how the Slim Fast shakes really kept me from feeling hungry or deprived. And the simplicity was good for me at this time in my life ( I've suffered for years with depression ). I wanted to lose weight without having to think about it a lot. So I just stuck with the Slim Fast. I really like it. I also walk my dog for about 45 minutes every morning in a hilly area and for 15 minutes in the afternoon. I make green tea every night for consumption the next morning. That's 3 bags ( Salada is the cheapest - I buy it at WalMart ) in about 20 oz. of water. I steep it for at least an hour. I add a small amount of sugar to take the edge off the bitterness. I swear it keeps my metabolism from slowing down. I'll never stop drinking it! NO PLATEAUS! I know Slim Fast isn't for everyone. I've tried it before and kind of felt like I was cheating, but I really needed an idiot proof plan.

I wanted to add that as I got closer to my goal, I started to worry about what I was going to do after I lost the weight. I was terrified that I'd gain it all back again, just like I've done in the past. So I've been journalling in a book. I wrote down a list I found of habits that slim people have, such as frequent weighing, etc. I also write something about how I felt when I was so big, like how it felt to cut my toenails with all that fat around my middle, and how it felt to climb stairs. Just things that were difficult when I weighed 206 lbs. I'm also kind of visualizing my meals for the future. Like what will I actually eat for breakfast. It's really helpful for me to visualize these things. Also, I'd like to add that I've lowered my blood pressure considerably. We all know how to lose weight. That's not the real battle. The real battle is in our heads. When we learn about ourselves we can change bad habits. Lose weight and keep it off.

I'd would also love to join.  I've been kinda in a rut lately so maybe this support system could help. :)  My stats... Height, 5'11'', currently at 241.4 lbs.  Thanks and good luck to everyone! :D

Hi, I will join the group.  I would like to take off my last 30 pounds by March 2010.  So ten by Thanksgiving will be a good start.

I am 5'7" and have lost a lot of weight since June 2006.  The best success I have had is through logging my food on this website.  It makes me focus.  I have never posted before, but I think the group motivation is what I need to take off the rest of the weight.

I have been sitting in the 170's for a year and a half mostly because I needed to slow down a bit and concentrate on making sure I could maintain rather than go for more.  Now I am ready to go for it.

SW: 270 (June 2006)

CW: 178

GW: 147

Goal by Thanksgiving: 168

I generally eat healthy and workout regularly.  I think I just need to step it up a bit and cut out some calories.

Welcome Hoos4pitt and animealiz!  I think that this will really help ME and I appreciate everyone joining in!  I like being able to share my success and my failure, because everyone here is so supportive, and I so need that.

Animealiz, you are I are similar in height and weight.  I have to say it is hard to find someone in the same place as me.  I get discouraged when I harp on myself too much.

I really appreciate the tips on journaling and such too.  I think that maybe I need to start writing down things like that.  I dont have a problem with what I will do when I loose it (see, i wrote WHEN not IF!) but I think that I fear giving up more now than relapsing later.

um I guess I should list mine, shouldnt I?

SW: 272

CW: 256 (Lowest 244)

GW: 150

Goal by Thanksgiving: 242

Been working hard today - raked leaves, worked in the yard, did 45 minutes on my recumbant bike and walked 1.5 miles.  Plan on another 1/2 hr on the bike later.

Do you guys have a favorite exercise or activity?

I play on my college's volleyball team and water polo team.  But I like swimming more than running or land exercises.  It just surprises me that I played sports all of my life but still ate enough for me to be overweight.  Just a really scary thought for me.

Okay I will hop on as well and be the biggest one here with the most to lose lol. I just started today so I don't have any changes to report yet but hopefully I will each week. I think the ten pound increments is an awesome idea instead of looking at the total amount that we have to lose only to get discouraged. Ten pounds a time woo hoo I can  handle that.

Stats:

5' 9", 42 years old

GW 150

I'll join in! This is a great idea; I've been on the lookout for some motivation sources! :)

I'm 5'8, currently at 186 lbs. My goal is be around 150 lbs by January.

WHOOOHOOO!!  Welcome everyone!  I am incredibly stoked by this!  I think that we can really make this happen!

I am getting ready to get on my bike again to end my day.  I need to continue with this motivation and I know that with all of us rooting for one another we can all succeed!

If we do well, would anyone be interested in doing something on an ongoing basis?  Like I said earlier, having a total of 120 to loose I had to break it down into ten pound increments.  I have 100 more to go, and that would be a total of a year, broken down in to five week challenges.  If you guys are interested we could start with this one, and each time we finish we can start anew!

My husband is the least supportive person, and so this could really help me in the long run.  Anyway, just looking for feedback with the thought.

The thought of hitting my goal weight in just fifty short weeks (less than a year!) is really making me happy!  Broken down, that is only ten challenges - that is NOTHING, right? Wink

I WOULD LOVE TOO! I'm at college now, so I would love to be looking a little better when I go home see everyone!

Hey, Ill join sounds like fun. Goo dluck Suzie

Ten pounds is quite a bit to lose by Thanksgiving, but I'm in for losing as much as I can.  It's always a good time to cut back before the holidays.

Height 5'2"

Not sure what I weigh today, but I will weigh in and post in the morning then post an appropriate goal.  I love to ride my bike suzieq but I haven't been making the time lately!  And also am "off the wagon."

Thanks for starting the challenge :)

Edit: to add CW 123.5, Goal weight 116.5

Okay I'm off to a good start, 45 minutes on the treadmill at 3 mph, 2 incline, burned 180 calories.  According to the activity log, for me, it was 139 calories.  It was much harder than I anticipated to stay on for that long, but yakking to mom helped.

Now to drink some water.  I totally have to kick myself in the butt to lose some fat and gain some muscle :)

Would love to join you.  My goal is to lose 8 - 10 pounds by my 50th birthday, which is the week before Thanksgiving!  I know that is a pretty aggressive goal.  Losing weight used to be so much easier for me - it just seems like no matter what I do, the pounds don't come off anymore.  Must be an age thing (or a pre-menopause thing???).

I am 5'6".  Current weight 147, 50th birthday goal weight 139-137, ultimate goal weight 132.

I am a divorced mom of 2 teen-aged sons.  I have a bf; he needs to lose about 20 pounds but is not doing anything about it!  So he is not much help to me!  I go to the gym 3 - 4 times per week for about 40 minutes.   My weakness is salty junk food -  chips, crackers, etc.

I will join your group!

Hi everyone. Nice to be here. I'm a 31yr old mom of ONE gourgeous 15 month boy.
