20th Wedding Anniversary

I need some help.. Its my mum & dads 20th Wedding Anniversary on the 2nd July and I dont know what on earth to get them! I know 20th is China but really, my mum and dad are not the china sort of people and wouldnt like it... Has anyone any ideas on what I could get them?

How about you have them over for dinner or a barbeque?  Grill some chicken and steak, maybe make a nice fruit cobbler for dessert?  Or, if cooking's not your thing, how about a nice set of wine or martini glasses with the fixings?

Or a gift certificate to their favorite store! Then they can pick out their own dang present.  I'm sure they will love anything you get them, sweetie.

Seconding the wine recommendation, but I may be a little biased due to being a wine nut.

The most recognizable name with a great vintage in 1988 would be the Sauternes area in Bordeaux.  You may save some cash and time looking for something from Hermitage, Italy's Piedmont region, or anything from Germany.  All of which had good vintages, as well.

One time for my parent's 16th anniversary (They have been married 46 years now), my sister and I made this "fancy" dinner for them and used watercolor paint to make a pretty "menu" that we placed on a picture stand on the table that was set nice.  We used the "french" version of the food when we wrote the menu.  eg, "Green Beans" were Haricot Verts, etc..   My Mom kept the menu thingy and we had a lot of fun.

Thank you for your replies.. Neither my mum and dad are wine drinkers, my mum doesnt touch alcohol and my dad is a larger/beer person... As for the dinner ideas I wish I could do something like that for them but I like not far off an hours drive away and there anniversary is on wednesday and I work all week

For my parents 30th anniversary I got them this personalized book where you can put in all their information such as date/place they got married, their names, etc. and it makes up a little book about them and about the day/year that they got married.  I can't remember what website it was from but I'm sure if you search around for personalized anniversary book you can find it, or something similar.
