This is my first Holiday on my new diet (1700 calories) and I'm really afraid of the amount of food placed in front of me at the table. My willpower is next to nothing when it comes to pie. Anyone have any suggestions on not going overboard or the same fear?

I would give yourself a day off. Just don't eat a whole pie, but it it Thanksgiving after all. Enjoy yourself.
I find it virtually impossible to not go overboard on Thanksgiving so I jump in feet first and enjoy the day, knowing I'll work out and eat right on Friday and on.  But, you could try these:

1 - Take larger portions of any vegetable dishes - green beans, carrots and celery, etc.  The idea is that if you're going to walk around moaning about how full you are, better to fill up on more healthy stuff than the stuffing and gravy

2- Drink lots of water throughout the day

3- Take very small slivers of the different pies or split with someone.  That way you get to try everything, but you aren't actually eating all that much pie.

4 - If Thanksgiving is at someone else's home, refuse to take home any leftovers.  If it's at your home, give away leftovers.
I'm planning to eat at maintenance calories on Thanksgiving (for me, about 1700 calories) So, I'm having my Fiber One breakfast (140 calories) and enjoying Thanksgiving meal at noon.

I plan to serve on my (smaller) plate turkey first, then veggies. I'll take a small portion of dressing, potatoes, etc. I will avoid gravy, butter and bread. I'm going to enjoy every bite with my family, and I plan to do the kitchen clean-up which expends energy.

Here's what I plan to eat:
A-  Turkey, All Classes, Light Meat - Cooked, Roasted 140 220 C+  Corn Bread Stuffing - Pepperidge Farm Stuffing
170 B   Potatoes, Mashed, Home-prepared, Whole Milk And Margarine Added 105 119 B+  Waldorf Salad - Vegetarian Salads
126 A   Carrots - Cooked, Boiled, Drained, With Salt 78 27 A   Broccoli, Cooked 78 22 C+  Pie, Pumpkin, Prepared From Recipe 155 316
That's about 1000 calories...but worth it!

Then, I'll take a nap... eat a turkey sandwich with a few Fritoes for supper (my alltime favorite taste combination.) If the weather's nice, might take a walk before supper to work off some calories.

This will be a guilt-free day that I will totally enjoy with family and friends... may yours be enjoyable as well.
I plan on using portion control and sticking to a plan to keep me just under maintenance for the day.  I entered in everything I will be making for the day and everything that will be brought..I left out the roll and mashed potatoes but will have a small amount of everthing else...I am actually going to weigh portions...and enjoy! Here is a look at my menu for the whole day (including a mock pina colada and appetizers)  Maybe this can help someone else:

I plan on keeping my current eating schedule for breakfast, lunch and mid morning snack. That way I am not starving at dinner time. Then I will have a little of everything I want. I know I won't go too overboard because I will have already been fed consistantly throughout the day. Then it's back to basics on Friday : )
oops...seems that link in my previous post only takes one to my current daily food log...not to thanksgiving...so oh well....but you get the idea...portion control, weigh everything, focus on family and really enjoy...it can be done!
Assuming you are a girl...

have you ever heard of the phrase "all the rich girls are anorexic" well i found it very funny totally not true lol but maybe u can use this as a defense. pretend that you come from a very high class elegant family (if its a freind's party) or be funny and pretend that u are nicole richie or something or at least think it urself that ur cooler than the food and u can have so much better quality food (think smith and wollensky) u might regret not eating it later but it will help u eat less haha
