"The Thanksgiving Ten" - losing those last annoying pounds challenge & support group

Quote  |  Reply
I have realized that as we get within about 10lbs of our goal weight, the challenges and struggles that we have to deal with are a bit different than for those earlier pounds.  I want this thread to serve as a sort of "kick in the pants" to get those last pounds off.  I also want this to serve as a "support group" where we can share struggles and successes or just to vent frustrations.  I chose Thanksgiving as the goal date because many people will be seeing their families and want to look their best!  I also think Thanksgiving in 8.5 weeks is a long enough time to get those last roughly 10lbs off.  Someone had mentioned having the goal be the Monday after Thanksgiving and everyone is free to chose their own goal date, but for me personally, I want to do it before the holiday.  We can then help each other develop strategies as to how to avoid the Thanksgiving overeating while still being able to enjoy our favorite seasonal foods and the decreased motivation to keep exercising and eating well between Thanksgiving and Christmas that seems to always happen.  We will also share tips and ideas about starting a maintenance plan and keeping those pounds off!

Please post your stats: age, sex, height, current weight and goal weight for Thanksgiving (November 22nd, 2007).

We will start on Monday October 1st.  Feel free to weigh in and post at any time.  I won't impose and official weigh in day, but I was thinking that Saturdays might work well as a motivation not to over do it during the weekend.  I will keep a running tally of where everyone is.

For weigh-ins, please send me a private message, I think it will be easier this way.  I will then update this post.  You can weigh in at any time, but I suggested Saturday as a good day.

I would love to break into the 1teens but I'm stuck in the 120s, oh well!! 4 weeks and only 2lbs down........ :(......my thanksgiving goal will probably not be reached my the end of this year nevermind Nov 22nd.

I've been eating generally very well this week but sometimes I'm so tired of having to count/account for everything that goes into my mouth!!
 Hi Naija,

You are doing fabulously with a 2 pound loss over a month's time!!  I looked at my chart just now, and I went from 155 on 1/1/07 to 132.5 as of this morning.  So, I too average about 2.25 pounds lost per month.  I will definitely take that.  I might not hit my original goal of 127 by Thanksgiving, but I'm sure to get into the 120's this month - just like you will likely get into the teens this month too!

Keep up your strength and hard work.  It will pay off.
Happy Halloween One and All!!!

I ate one SMALL Reece Cup last night, and the kiddies got the rest!  I'm thrilled with myself this morning.

How did everybody do with the "candy" holiday?

i was lucky not to be tempted, we gave out Dots and sunflower seed packs, both of which i'm not wild about. at work, we don't do candy b/c the boss is diabetic.

last year i ended up eating all the chocolate candies left over from our Halloween party, i learned my lesson!

SW: 135

GW: 125 (turkey day)

Current weight as of this morning: 126.4!

I'm really having a hard time believing the weight is coming off so readily...I love this site...totally awesome!

CW: 141.0

I surpassed my goal! I rock. I'm still going tho.

I have been lightly chowing on the occasional candy treat this week but otherwise have been pretty good, given the multitude of events I attend.  I've broken into the 120's hurray!  I am so exicted.  Even though my goal is 122, I'd be thrilled with keeping  below 125.  I've been really focusing on heavy weights and MOVING as much as possible.  It is finally starting to budge the scale.

A late response again (sorry!), but CW was 168.8, as of Saturday. I could actually come close to hitting my goal of 164...

Thanks!

Nearly to my goal weight. This is fun :)

Gobble gobble.

126 today
I have been gaining so much lately from all this binging. Yesterday I was 118.5 lbs. Today, I was 124.5. Question: Is that even possible to gain 6 lbs in a single day?????

shorelover.. not unless you ate over 18,000 cals.. its probably mostly water weight.. give it a few days to even out! =)
shorelover, try not to have the binges psych you out (I know hard).  But from personal experience, thinking about it and trying to make up for it only makes it worse.  Just get back on the wagon and everything will be fine.  What you should do is try to figure out your binge triggers - boredom, stress, depression, loneliness etc - then try to fight those triggers when they come around.  It will get easier with time.
So what is everyone doing for Thanksgiving anyway????????

we go every year to my aunt and uncle's who live about an hour away. nick's been going too for several years, while we were dating. it's mostly the aunt's side of the family (we're from the uncle's side), but it's fun to see the different people once a year. the only bummer is my sister is starting to do Thanksgiving stuff w/ her in-laws family in WI, and i miss having her there. We'll try to hit Nick's dad's in the evening (Nick is obsessed w/ his White Castle Stuffing!)

i think it would be fun to do our own (me & Nick, just got married) Thanksgiving sometime... maybe we'll do a Repeat Thanksgiving w/ some friends.

Nick told me yesterday we're going the day after Thanksg. w/ his mom and grandma to cut down Christmas trees! It will be my first time with a live tree :)

gobble gobble!

I'm cooking, of course!  There will be 8 of us, six adults and two kids.  That's all the family we have within 300 miles.

I'm making all our traditional dishes but I'm slimming them down when I can.  I'm also making a lot less of everything so I won't have leftovers for a week afterwards.  My husband can't eat a lot of things and definitely not much at one time (cancer) so I'm trying to find nutrient dense side dishes that he'd enjoy.  Any suggestions?

For thanksgiving, as usual, going to my grandmother's house. Everyone converges there each year for the holidays, plus my aunt lives directly across the road, so it's like a double meal (ugh). But I think if I do more talking and less eating I should be all right.

Weigh in this morning (even with TOM) Undecided: 125.8...down from 135!

let's see if I can lose this last pound shall we? 12 days left!

PL: 9.2

going to my moms house in CA. Traditions have changed over the past years so it wont be too bad. i'll help out in the kitchen and that's that.

:) We be good.

Hi everyone-

What will I be doing for Thanksgiving??  Spending the day with close family (my cousin is hosting) and surrounded by way too much food. But first, I'm running an 8K race.

Now on to my weigh in:

This week: 161.8 (down 1.2 from LW). Down a total of 8.2, with one week to go.
