"The Thanksgiving Ten" - losing those last annoying pounds challenge & support group

Quote  |  Reply
I have realized that as we get within about 10lbs of our goal weight, the challenges and struggles that we have to deal with are a bit different than for those earlier pounds.  I want this thread to serve as a sort of "kick in the pants" to get those last pounds off.  I also want this to serve as a "support group" where we can share struggles and successes or just to vent frustrations.  I chose Thanksgiving as the goal date because many people will be seeing their families and want to look their best!  I also think Thanksgiving in 8.5 weeks is a long enough time to get those last roughly 10lbs off.  Someone had mentioned having the goal be the Monday after Thanksgiving and everyone is free to chose their own goal date, but for me personally, I want to do it before the holiday.  We can then help each other develop strategies as to how to avoid the Thanksgiving overeating while still being able to enjoy our favorite seasonal foods and the decreased motivation to keep exercising and eating well between Thanksgiving and Christmas that seems to always happen.  We will also share tips and ideas about starting a maintenance plan and keeping those pounds off!

Please post your stats: age, sex, height, current weight and goal weight for Thanksgiving (November 22nd, 2007).

We will start on Monday October 1st.  Feel free to weigh in and post at any time.  I won't impose and official weigh in day, but I was thinking that Saturdays might work well as a motivation not to over do it during the weekend.  I will keep a running tally of where everyone is.

For weigh-ins, please send me a private message, I think it will be easier this way.  I will then update this post.  You can weigh in at any time, but I suggested Saturday as a good day.

WEEK 7 UPDATES:

PLEASE CHECK YOUR NUMBERS!!!

I have only included those that have sent me their stats.  Feel free to keep sending.  Good job everyone!!!

I'm starting to sweat.

SW: 190, CW 182.6, GW 180, PL 7.4

I know I'm close but I've been the exact same weight for a couple of weeks and I'm going to a party tonight. :-0

Party on South Carolina Guy!
I ended up gaining 2.5 lbs because of binging. I am now at day 3 binge free and I have already lost a pound. A tip for any bingers: have a big breakfast (like 500 cals). It's working for me!
Rock on Tracey! Good for you! ::celebration dance::
Thanks guys!

A couple weeks back I had a week where I stayed the same and I thought it was over for me (the dreaded plateau was setting in). I kept going and got through it. Hang in there everyone!

I was raised to not say stuff like this but I am really proud of myself!!! Sorry mom.

As of yesterday I was 124.4...this morning too! TOM finished and my weight dropped below 125 for the first time! Yay! I've reached my turkey day goal a week in advance. Amazing but true! TPL: 10.6

now...120 by Christmas??

woohoo steph!!!

(125 is my ultimate goal)

Tracy and Stephany  - Great Job!

I'm hoping to join your ranks by the end of the challenge but these last couple of pounds have been like trying to melt ice when it's 33 degrees!  (Drip-Drip) Only .8 left to go before turkey day!

woo gobble gobble day is fast approaching.

current weight 139.0.

I swear im tryin to maintain but i lost another pound. heh.

Thanks so much! I coulnd't have done it without the encouragement from my husband and from people like all of you here! It's like a family in here :) next stop 120 by Christmas....maybe we can start a Christmas challenge next?
Stephany, I love the idea of a Christmas Challenge!!!!
i'd love us to keep going until christmas!
I would like to go until Christmas also since I have only lost 1 pound since we started.  I am at 116.6 and my goal weight is 110.  I'm only 4'11 so I don't burn many calories while sedentary (only 1200).  Does anyone have suggestions on how I can speed up my weight loss?
122 today, so 11 pounds lost since i started this challenge, but still hoping to hit 120 but turkey day...gobble gobble.
Here's a question: How do you guys battle hunger but keep cals low?
I know I shouldn't focus too much on the scale but it would be just nice to have the numbers go down. I have lost inches but no weight, I know I must have gained muscle, which is better but I guess I'm one of those people who when they have a set goal or number in mind have to achieve it! All part of my obsessive personality trait.

Happy Thanksgiving  everybody!

Thank you for your hard work, Kate!!!!!!!

Caniche

Kate, do you have the energy to keep us going until XMas? I echo the others that are up for continuing. I am really happy for all of you that were able to meet your goals for November 22. Congratulations! You inspire me!

Extend "The Thanksgiving Ten" until Christmas? How about "The Christmas Two" that's how much I missed it by. :-)
