Thanksgiving weight gain anyone?
I was 127 yesterday, got on the scale this AM and BAM-129.8. I certainly didn't stick to my diet yesterday, but I honestly didn't eat too badly (except I split a piece of Coldstone Creamery ice cream cake with my best friend...eek!) and I pretty much had a small portion of a few things and only had one plate. Also, I was running around cleaning the house and helping my boyfriend cook ALL day. I am crossing my fingers that this is just my body adjusting itself after an unusually high caloric day. But no leftovers for me!! I am sticking to the lean turkey and beef tenderloin, but thats about it. Anyone else experience a similar increase post-Thanksgiving?
Hope you all had a great turkey day!
It is normal for a person to fluctuate up to and sometimes greater than 5lbs in a day for any reason. Thus, it's much smarter to weigh in once a week under the same conditions and take your progress based on that, instead of every morning.

I ate so much yesterday that I went to bed queezy and I still am this morning. So I'm going to avoid the scale while I eat healthy and exercise harder over the next week and then maybe I'll weigh myself lol
I'm just not prepared to deal with the damage yet.
sugarbabie~ I'm sure you're fine :) I prob shouldn't have weighed myself either but I was just too curious.

There is no way you gained 2.8 lbs in one day. You would have had to eat an extra 9800 cals for that to happen. Its just water weight from the food that you ate yesterday and it should go back down in a few days.
keb~ I agree, I am not too worried. But it's fascinating how your body reacts to a sudden change in diet.
lalabanana~great article!
My weight went up two pounds from Thanksgiving too... I didn't expect it because I only had cereal for breakfast and then Thanksgiving dinner, but I guess that's what happens when they put a traditional high-carb thanksgiving dinner in front of you without any healthy vegetables to balance it out or eat instead. It was good though!
This thread just made me run downstairs to weigh. I wasn't going to, but I figure seeing a number will keep me motivated so I won't eat the leftover pumpkin cheesecake that is in my fridge.
I gained .4 lbs. That's totally a normal day's flux, I'm not stressed.
I did have a plan yesterday. I did some intense cardio in the morning, followed by hours of housework. We eat dinner at 6, so I had my normal cals all day. I budgeted out how many cals I could have at dinner (which was 1,200). However, I had 3 glasses of wine unexpectedly, which led to some extra dessert. Oh well, it's over. I'll be good the rest of the weekend and it will be gone by Monday.
Well considering i've been binging for 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, i'm afraid to weigh myself.
Yesterday, i ate well over 5000 calories : /
Ugh, well today is a fresh new start : ]
Ugh yeah. I feel horrible. I was 106 yesterday morning. This morning: 113. It's not so bad though.. only natural to go up after eating so much. Give it 3-4 days and everything will be grand again! Less than a month till Christmas!!!
Yep. I gained nearly 2 lbs. I dont' think it was the meal that did me in, it was that I ate it so early (2:30 pm) and was starving and had leftovers at 1 AM. yeah...I'm pretty sure that's what the gain was from. Oh well, back on track today. At least I exercised yesterday.
Thanksgiving was my FREE day so I ate all that I wanted plus more...i felt a little gross afterwards but I'm okay with it. So now it's back on the wagon and I'll weigh my self in a week...LOL it will be like it never happened.
my weight went up like 5 lbs from thanksgiving dinner.. haha i ate a lot of dessert ![]()
I think if you don't have an E.D. you can weigh in every
morning and log it, then you can follow your "trend" , while getting used to
seeing normal daily fluctuations and the small water gains after a
good strength building workout.
Why oh why did you even bother jumping on the scale today! You know you will weigh more, common, you had a huge meal yesterday probably WITH ALL THE FIXINGS! After all, who didn't? You will be fine, your weight will not be 129.8 forever, it is purely 2.8 pounds higher because of your large & in charge meal yesterday but now that Thanksgiving is over you will go right back to your normal eating ways and be just fine... just expect a 2 pound gain the day after X-mas and the day after New Years... but you will lose it quickly because it is all water weight from your sodium intake and the bloat from eating a lot of food...
I probably gained like 3 or 4 pounds but I did not jump on the scale because I really did not want it to ruin my day! I will weigh myself in like a week and I am sure I will be just fine... as will you!
Gia, haha I know I am a total masochist. But I am not worried about it, I know it will go back to normal soon. I spent 6 hours working retail at the mall today, so hopefully that will have helped me burn some extra cals ![]()
Heh. As has been said, you'd have to have eaten 9800 calories to put on that weight for real and that's on TOP of your burn for the day, so make sure you don't worry. P: As for day to day weighs... well. If you can laugh at what you see and follow a trend, then it doesn't hurt - but only if you know and recognise that so many factors apply, like sodium and water retention, food weight, possibly approaching TOTM and so on.
I don't think so although I haven't done my weekly weigh-in yet (since I only weigh on Saturday and Sunday)....
but I can't emphasize it enough like everyone else....whatever weight you gained yesterday whether it was .5 lbs or 10 lbs...it's temporary and will be gone in a few days and it will be like nothing ever happened....the only way it would stick is if you kept going or picking over the whole holiday month (which a lot of people are guilty of sometimes including me last year lol)....but just be grateful for the day and that you had a wonderful meal!
I totally wanted to go all out yesterday...I just kept having flashbacks to last X-mas eve/day when I literally went nuts and got sick, which I did on Thanksgiving two years ago too....I used to have Binge eating disorder so it is harder for me to get back on the wagon after doing that and I flip myself out so i don't go down that road...wish I could though....
but I still had my pie ;-)
Well I started the morning eating a piece of homemade dutch apple pie and black coffee for breakfast! Yum! I got the turkey stuffed and cooking and walked 3 miles! Had a huge lunch and pumpkin pie for dinner! Pretty much pinched at the stuffing all night though! Weighed in at .5 lbs over my last weigh in! Kind of ate the same way today but I do not intend on weighing myself again till next weekend! I fully enjoyed the food and did not intend on denying myself of any of it. I just had small portions. The only thing I really feel guilty about was that one yeast roll that when I later checked, it was worth 140 calories. Man it was good but I won't do that again!
I lost 1.4 lbs and I even went over my self appointed calorie limit, but I made sure not to go over my burn level for the day. I have not worried too much about daily ups and downs of the scale. I compare the weekly averages with a slightly serious glance and the monthly total with a more critical look.
