Thankyou Oatmeal Genius!!
Okay so I've never been a big fan of oatmeal, always wanted to be since it's so good for you. I was reading through some posts a couple days ago and someone mentioned adding penut butter and jelly to your oatmeal. I never would of thought of this on my own. Although I havent done penut butter in it yet, adding jam to the oatmeal is sooooooo yummy. I can imagine it with pb would be good plus added protein. I've been putting blackberry jam and fresh strawberries in mine. YUM!! I love it! So thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to whoever you are, sorry I cant remember your name or find the post. I will now eat oatmeal every morning. WOO HOO!!
I read the same post and have picked up the trick too! Oatmeal feels empty now without a tsp of peanut butter. It makes it taste soooo yummy and hearty! Plus I started adding flax seeds, and well my breakfast runs at under 250 cals and fuels me for hours. It was definitely a golden post, so I agree, thank you oh wise poster!
I like all the ideas I've gotten on CC for everything since when you're limiting calories, it takes creative thinking to keep food interesting and tasty.
Oatmeal is awesome!
Here's a great resource for more oatmeal ideas:

And if you're into french toast, that same website has some wonderfully different ideas on that as well.
Try grated apple and cinamon. Its super healthy and will help maintain blood sugar levels :)
xXx
if you buy a bag of frozen fruit, put 3/4 cup (which is only 60 calories) on a plate and let it thaw for a few minutes so it's still cold but not super frozen, then toss it in your oat meal! when it hits the hot oatmeal it will melt a bit more so some juices start to come out and you mix it in and it gets all sweet and fruity! oh man i ant some now lol. i just bought some instant organic oatmeal today too lol!
I added some peanut butter for the first time today - delicious!
I picked up this from someone on the forums:
1 cup water
1/2 cup oats
1/4 cup canned pumpkin
vanilla extract
almond milk
cinnamon
1/3 cup fibre one (but I add 1/6 cup fibre one and 1/6 cup special k almond blend instead!)
And then I sprinkle a little brown sugar on top. Sooooo good and it keeps me full for hours!
Someone mentioned 1 tsp of peanut butter. Will that really do the trick? A bitty tsp? How much PB! :) I want to try it.
1 tsp isn't enough for me; I add a tablespoon. That really ups the cals, though, so I guess you need to find the right compromise.
I have PB2 powdered peanut butter and I figured I'd try that in there. It's 54cals for 2 tablespoons, so 1 won't kill it by any means. Too bad I just finished my oatmeal! Tomorrow is another day :)
I also have to put a good tablespoon. Any less, I might as well not put it in at all. A good Tb is just enough to really know it's in there without killing you with calories. Also, I'd imagine if you don't add that "pinch" of salt to your oatmeal, especially if you're using a PB that doesn't contain any, it's likely that you may need to add even more PB to really be able to taste it enough to enjoy it (might just be me, though). I also love the PB&J oatmeal. I started it recently on an out-of-town trip, something I could make quickly and easily (and healthfully) with a hotel room micro/fridge (for the preserves). I also use about a tablespoon of low-sugar preserves. YUM! Crunchy PB is even better! This version actually works out to be FEWER calories than my "normal" bowls of oatmeal, where I add fruit, nuts, half&half, honey/maple, etc., coming in at about 275 cals, give or take, compared to my usual 375+, and keeps me just as full for just as long. Hmmm, delicious and economical! ![]()
Whoa!!! PB&J to my oatmeal?!?! Why didn't I think of this soooooner!!!
Now that I know, I thinks I will nuke me a healthy-ish bowl of oatmeal...thx for paying fwd the tip :D
Hey guys,
Slice up a banana in thar too. And throw in some walnuts/pecans. Don't forget a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin pie spice. You do not even need to add sugar--the banana takes care of that.
I'll be trying the peanut butter next time. Yum!
PS cypherous--have you tried the kind that you cook on the stove, sometimes referred to as "Irish cut"? It is way tastier than the microwave, instant stuff.
I use old fashioned oats and I cook mine in the microwave too. 1/2 cup oats 1 cup water and 3 min in the microwave. Easy Peasy. ![]()
Thanks for all the great ideas!! I'll be looking at oatmeal a whole different way now. MMMMmmm...
Okay I just tried it with PB, not as exciting as just the jam and fresh fruit. It was okay but I definatley like it better with just blackberry jam and fresh strawberries. IMO.
Every morning I have my special pumpkin oatmeal:
1/3 or 1/2 c. oats
1/3 or 1/2 c milk or water
1/4 or 1/3 c canned, no salt added, pumpkin
1 tablespoon honey
1/2oz almonds
2tbsp raisins
and Cinnoman sprinkled on top (lots and lots of it)
It has 250-400 calories depending on how much you put in it, and it tastes AMAZING! Like a pumpkin pie but a less sweet!!!!!
And, as a bonus, it keeps me full for 5.5 hours!
I am afraid I am the only girl in Italy having Oatmeal for breakfast! It's so not-italian! Anyway I love it with banana and cinnamon or half a teaspoon of cocoa powder and sugar. I use soy milk.
I have tried to buy PB once but it finished too soon
so I try to resist to that kind of food simply by not buying it...
Thanks for all the suggestions.
Silvia
hey!
so i read somone grated apple in, and added a pinch of cinnamon! i tried this today with oatmeal cooked on the stove with water, with added flax, then i grated in an apple and added cinnamon and some brown sugar! it was REAAAALLY yummy, and the apple makes it fruity and sweet, but also makes it so youre eating a bigger bowl of food with less calorie oatmeal!
eggs in oatmeal > PB in oatmeal.
