thin crust pizza mystery

Quote  |  Reply
While I am avoiding pizza in general right now, I was browsing the nutrition of Domino's pizza. Several sites offered breakdowns. I was surprised that the thin crust was always more calories per slice then the hand tossed or deep dish. Over the past two years, since starting insulin therapy, I have been getting thin crust because I figured it had less carbs. So what gives? Is the thin crust somehow denser?

Good thin crust pizza = Panera restaurant.

The whole crispani pizza is only 550 calories at most, depending on what you put on it.

the whole pizza!

that's what I'm talking about.
As in Panera Bread? FANTASTIC! I can eat pizza again!

Wait, is the "whole thing" like the size of my palm?
thin crust at pizza hut is the lowest cal version - don't know what dominoes does differently.
Is the serving size larger?  Check the weight in grams.
That Panera comment is incorrect, according to their website.

The Tomato & Fresh Basil Crispani is the lowest calorie item of the Crispani, and it has 320 calories per serving....but the whole pizza is 3 servings. It's not particularly filling, considering how many calories are involved. I ate half of one as a dinner, but was still hungry and had to find some extra fruits and such to supplement.
Not according to www.dietfacts.com, which has tons of eating out nutrition info.

The Tomato & Fresh Basil Crispani is labeled at 420 calories for the pizza:

Either way, you could safely eat half the pizza, which is a lot of food, and not intake very many cals... I mean geez, one slice of Pizza Hut is often around 250-300.  Even if the Panera website is the one you go by, that's still a third of the whole pizza, which is pretty dang good sized.
You want low-cal pizza?  I had the most amazing homemade pizza snack today!

1 Low-carb Whole Wheat tortilla
2 tbsp homemade spicy hummus
2 tbsp Picante Mild Salsa
Diced Green Pepper, purple onion, tomato, and mushroom
crumbled goat cheese
sliced cooked asparagus
oregano, garlic, and basil

bake on cookie sheet for 25 minutes at 400 degrees

total cals?
120!

absolutely delicious!
That sounds GREAT, Rad! I'm going to try it. I also make a great "diet" pizza. I use flatbread (or pita), 100% whole grain, of course. Then I top it with a little bit of sauce and some sauted mushrooms and onions and sprinkle with a little part-skim Mozzerella. Then broil. Yum! I'm actually NOT a fan of pizza ... unless it's homemade.
Pizza Hut Fit & Delicious Pizza is really yummy.  You have to ask for it specially because its not on the menu or website (although the nutritionals are).  It comes in Low Carb and Low Fat options and you won't feel guilty eating 2 or even 3 large slices. :)
Yeah, but even then, one slice of one of those pizzas is more calories than my whole thing!  Probably because of the crust and grease.
I make my own pizza and the only difference between thin and thick crust at my house is whether or not I let the dough rise before making it.

I guess potentially, because in a thin crust pizza, the dough does not rise, it could take more dough to create the crust and therefore increase the calories.....
