Is 5,7 and 118lbs too thin?
that is very much dependent on how you get to 118 lbs. i have a frined who is 5'5 and about 98 lbs, but she's extremely healthy. she eats more than enough, she's active, but not overly so, she just bikes back and forth to school and her apartment pretty much everyday, but it's only about a 15 minute ride. she's not concious about her weight or diet, but she does eat healthy foods. she just has one of those crazy high metabolisms. and she LOOKS healthy, not sickly.
i, on the other hand, am 5'3 and almost two years ago starved myself down to about 100 lbs and looked like an alien. i burned about 600 cals a day and ate about 300. for about 6 months, i'm still in recovery, although i am at a healthy weight, i have major issues with food, mirrors and pictures.
i was completely unhealthy because of the way i got to that weight. the method is the most important thing.
I'm just worried because I haven't gotten my period in 4 months. It stopped when I weighed like 130 lbs. I eat about 1000 calories a day though and only burn about 250. PLus I am taking a multi vitamin and calcium supplements. I don't feel sick but i'm worried.
if you check around you will see that you definitely need to be eating more that 1000 calories a day. Women need at least 1200 calories a day at the bare minimum. more, if you're exercising.
my advice is to go to talk a nutritionist or a dietician and your doctor. they can lead you in the right direction when it comes to blancing a healthy diet and active lilfestyle. and tell you how to get your period back.
im 5'8 and 117 =]
i consume 1900 to maintain my weight.......... so it actually depends if you eat or not...and by the looks of it 1000 calories isnt enough..and your slowly depriving your body of the nutrients it needs
edit: i do get my period...it sucks lol =P
5'8" and I'm 109 (also anorexic) I know that is unhealthy for me. So if you eat right and you are at that weight then I figure your ok. If your worried about your health talk to your doctor.
Yes, technically you are underweight. Ideal weight for your height is 135.
If you haven't gotten your, that is pobably a sign you are too thin. Increase your calories and the % that comes from fat. You should be eating AT LEAST 1200. If you are a teen (and thus, still growing) the recmended min. is 1800.
Btw, everyone burns more than 250 calories a day. No one has a metabolism that slow (perhaps with the exception of starving people in 3rd world countries who eat under 100 cal. a day, and thus, have killed their metabolism in order to survive)
I agree with everyone here. I am 5' 8'' and I am recovering from eating disorders. Last year I got down to 110 lbs and I felt awful ALL the time. I was always depressed and sad in a bad mood and just angry. I hated everything and mostly hated myself. Now I am 130 lbs, and only about like almost the same size in inches that i was when I was 110...i don't no how that worked out, but it did...and let me tell you...its hard to get used to being 20 lbs heavier....however i have an amazing support system behind me, helping me along....I am also athletic, so I am thinking the weight i put on was mostly muscle. When I gained the weight back, I also got my period back. I hadn't had it for 10 months. That's REALLY scary. So just be careful, and help yourself while you can.

I meant 250 extra. I run for 25 minutes like 5 times a week
it really depends on whethe or not this weight is actually normal for you... the BMI will say that yes it is too low, BUT if you have been this way your entire life and eat properly then it may be an okay weight for you... although you could benefit from gaining a few pounds...
on the other hand if you have dieted or starved yourself or have an ED which contributed in getting to this weight.. then well hun, it is too low for you and unhealthy.
so which category do you fall into?
OK i just re-read through the posts and you said that you do starve yourself... so well umm yes this is too low for you and you better very well know that.
I'm 5'7 and fluctuate between 103 and 105. I have a lot of muscle, and eat about 1300 calories per day. I'm certainly not sickly, and don't deprive myself. I run, spin, lift weights, kickbox, and fidget a log. :) I don't think that a person's weight should be solely determined by their height. When I weighed 115, I actually looked a little overweight, and had cellulite. I feel best at around 105. So, whether or not you are too thin at 5'7 and 118 lbs. ???
5'7 and 115 is not overweight and you probably didnt look over weight...103/105 is underweight and 1300 calories isnt enough for you to maintain that with all the activity you do...
how old are you jans?
If your period has stopped because of the amount of weight you have lost, you have lost too much. Everybody's different so it's not unheard of for some people to be 5'7" and 118 and be fine but not everyone is built that way. You should talk to a doc and see what you need to do to get back on track to being healthy :) Good luck!
I am in recovery too and at 5'7 my lowest was 94. I am currently in the process of getting healthier and I currently am around 108. My nutritionist says that 130 should be where I am, but I am planning on aiming arou 120 because I have also always been small framed and my heaviest was only 132 at our height. However, I still do think that you are underweight, we really should be aiming more around the 120's to 130 to be perfectly healthy! Good Luck!
