Thin at the Gym

Quote  |  Reply

I've recently started going back to the gym. Last night, I go into the women only section and start the "burn". I felt great about myself when all was done but I can't help but feel discouraged by the tiny women I see in the gym. Toning and staying fit, and I feel ashamed that I've let myself get this bad. I've never been small by any means, but it would have been a lot easier at 190 than at 260 to take off the weight. But all I can do is smile and accept other's success. I'll have mine one day!

use that as inspiration.... know that one day with hard work, you will be there too! Those thin, toned, fit women have been working at it, so really, you are all in the same boat :)

Don't feel ashamed- feel proud that you are doing something wonderful for yourself!!!

Congrats on going back to the gym!

I felt like that when I first started at the gym also....but ya know what? Those women don't STAY that thin by sitting on their bums at home, that's why they are there too! AND I'd be willing to bet that no matter how thin you think someone is, she's got some body issues just like us!

Every time I'm on the treadmill next to a cute skinny mini, I just tell myself that I'm working towards that, and that will be ME eventually! That at least I'm DOING something about how I look now!

......and one day it'll be someone looking at YOU thinking the same thing!

Congrats Tiff on getting in the gym regardless of where you're at.

Some of the best advise given me was to be independent of the good opinion of others.  Next to that was celebrate with every cell in your body the success of others.

By doing that you'll bring more of that.  Those skinny girls have only one difference then you, and that is time. You're a unique individual.  Be inspired by them, celebrate their success, but don't ever compare yourself to them.

Good job getting back at it!

I know the tiny girls in their tiny outfits can be tough to look at, but at least they're at the gym working hard like all of us ;) And not just skinny by eating whatever they want - lol!

I try to use it for motivation... I was on the stairclimber the other night and really wanted to get off after about 5 mins, then I see this Giselle-looking girl with an amazing butt sweating away... and I remember why I was there in the first place & stayed on the darn thing, and felt great after!

Those skinny minis you see working out probably are thinking about how they wish they had smaller thighs and trimmer waists. Or they are trying to maintain their physiques.... Either way they want to be healthy- just like you! Youre not any different from them, tell yourself that. Youll get there!

to be independent of the good opinion of others is a great concept. it was championed ages and ages ago by philosophers, you might - in case you want to delve deeper - be interested in this bookhttp://www.amazon.com/Art-Living-Classical-Ha ppiness-Effectiveness/dp/0061286052/ref=sr_1_ 1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244103282& sr=8-1

also, congrats on going there. i know it is very, very tough!

I used to look at thin people and think "god how do they stay so thin?!" I've since realised that, actually, they don't just "stay" thin, most of them have to really work at it. Does make you feel a bit better, with some hard work we'll all have those slim waists and toned thighs!

Of course there are those women who seem to just eat nothing but pizza and chocolate all day and never do more excercise than walking to the freezer for another pint of ice cream! Grrr
