How often do you think thin people have a fast metabolism and can't put on weight or are they thin because they just eat healthily.
I know a couple of guys who are really skinny and say they don't put on weight but neither eats much. Both will often just leave half their meal when we go to restaurant.

I don't think a fast metabolism is the cause of someone being very thin in the majority of cases.
thanks, jane. metabolism isn't the cause of thinness (or obesity), it's the result of diet and activity.
i hate that people reverse this cause-effect relationship so often. it's faulty logic. it's like not showing up for work for a week, getting fired, and then complaining that you don't have a job.
Most thin people I know have appalling diets, probably because they've never had any reason to think about it. Junk food once a day, don't eat anything else, never exercise, that kind of thing. I know the calories is probably not that high from eating once a day so that's what keeps them slim, but they aren't doing their bodies any favours. And they get so much validation from society in general for how they look... why would they ever change?
most of the thin people i know eat plenty, spend very little time on the couch, and when they are on the couch, they don't sit very still.
But you know I would rather be thin than healthy .

priorities like these are likely to get you neither.
There are a good number of people that have digestive disorders. Unless they have them checked (and a good portion don't know to have it checked), their digestive tracks don't absorb the food fully. Not all have the same disorder though, some can't digest certain fats, etc.
Unless these people go into a malnourished state and get hospitalized they never know it. Unless they are a doctor of course.
Usually I believe this than they burn more calories. If they do more activities that is one thing, but if they are sitting around and "burning more calories" they would have a noticable (and therefore evidence) increase in body temperature. Like several degrees at the least. Remember from science, 1 Calorie is how much it takes to raise 1 gram of water by 1 degree celcius. If they have X grams of water in their body, and burn Y amount of calories they would have a temperature of Z.
I was thin for 45 of my 50 years. I will be 50 this May.
As a kid it was hard to get me in the house to the table to sit still long enough to eat a meal but my Mum made sure we did when we were little.
As a teen my diet sucked because I never thought about food but again Mum often got us to eat at least a good dinner, when we were around which was not very much.
In my twenties, living on my own I made some effort to have at least the staples in the fridge, but often it was empty.
In my late twenties I had my son who was also hard to nail to a chair. I took him to the doctor who told me to let him eat what he wanted, just to make sure it was healthy. I started to make sure there was healthy stuff in the fridge he and I could grab. My husband is a great cook and over the years he gradually learned to reduce portion size for us because he was always throwing food out.
Eating was like brushing my teeth, something I had to learn to make time for. In my mid forties I began to notice my waistline grow. At 49, though at a healthy BMI, I decided to lose my belly. It took me almost a year. Mostly I cut out convenience/fast foods. I don't remember ever thinking about food much.
Calorie Counting has been hard for me because now I do think about food. But because of that my diet has improved. You cannot help but eat healthier when you start reading labels. I do miss my big macs and I'd kill for a smoke but when I turn 50 this may I will be healthier than I was at 40.
All this is just to say that, skinny/thin people are sometimes thin because they don't think about food. It does not mean they are healthier, my diet sucked. But I was not depriving myself or actively trying to be slim, it was just the way I was.
Edited to add - I always liked fruit and vegetables - Thanks to Mum ![]()

but i think what she is missing is that when you're allowing yourself to eat what you truly want...sometimes you want vegetables.
I can't stand vegetables or salad either. Don't get why you would to eat them for any other reason than going on a diet.
Whoaa?!?! maan you NEED veggies evn if you are not on a diet, that is why skinny people are skinny, even if they dont have a fast metabolism they eat healthy or even portioned without even knowing, fat people would just eat tons of crap -_-(not trying to be rude or anything and i apologise if im being rude =D!)
