Things you can do now... that you couldn't before you lost weight!

Quote  |  Reply
This is a thread where we list all the cool things we can do now that we couldn't do before we lost weight.

the more weight you lose the more you can do... so get posting kids. I want to know what you can do that you couldnt do when you started this.

here are some of mine...

-Cross my Legs

-Put a knee up to my chest... (can't get both yet... I think that both will take a while to get there)

-walk without feeling disgusting or completely out of shape

-wear a size xl in shirts

-wear clothes i havent SEEN since high school

-talk and not avoid a discussion on weight loss.

-take pictures that i am not 100% disgusted by (well in the face... the body is still not good)

-walk with my head high (because i know i am making positive changes in my life)

cross my legs

 sit on my knees

child's pose/shell pose {yoga/pilates thing, sort of like an upright fetal position}, or for that matter almost any basic yoga or pilates pose. save lotus. My legs were not designed to ever bend that way, at least not both at the same time.

Push ups / sit ups/ walk outs {start from stand go to down dog, walk out to plank do push up and then reverse, its not as hard as it sounds}

put on and tie my shoes with out sitting down or getting out of breathe

drive w/o my stomach getting in the way of the steering wheel.

Get up from a seated position with out using my hands and momentum to propel myself forward.

Sit down with out droping down.

See my own.. ummm.. you figure it out.

shop in a regular sized clothes store

run a 15 minute mile {though I really have to push myself hard to do this}

Get help in a store, it seems the larger you are the more invisible you are for some reason.

Look in a mirror and not loathe what I see.

I'm sure there are more, I just can't think of them right now.

Do cardio for long periods of time.

Walk by a mirror without thinking, "Ew."

Wear certain sweaters without worrying about muffin top.

See definition in my abs.

These are just a few ;)

Walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I was going to have a heart attack.
-more comfortably talk to new people.
- love getting my photo taken (I used to hide when cameras starting being taken out, now almost all photos of me turn out pretty good)

- run (or even walk easily uphill / up stairs)

- shop at normal stores without feeling out of place

- cross my legs without having to grab my leg to get it over than tuck it behind a table leg to keep it there

- stay on my feet for hours (at work) without my feet/knees getting the least bit sore

- sit cross legged ("indian style")  in a chair... yeah an odd thing to do, but I find it really comfy :)
sit outside in any kind of sun without sweating
-wear my sister's clothes (they look better on me anyway..lol)

-not sweating as much like craver199103

-run faster

-i no longer feel insecure around skinny girls...yay!!!!!!!!

that's all the things I can (or can't) do now that I've weight.

Definitely the stairs thing. I now can fly up the stairs by leaping several stairs at a time, and barely be winded on top after going 3 levels up when exiting some deep level subway stations here in NYC.

Its an amazing feeling to get up on the street in 30 seconds and just comparing to how I felt 1 year ago. (sometimes having to position myself on purpose behind some old / slow-moving person so it's less noticeable that I barely able to continue climbing without taking a rest)

My thieghs no longer chaif and I can see daylight through my fingers and toes when they're together.
these are all milestone... congrats everyone!

When I look down, I can see my feet...

I can easily get out of bed/car within using momentum...

Fit into a size 14 (that I bought today...YEAH!)

before I couldn't run a mile- now I can do 5+

fit into jeans w/o worrying about muffintop as much

wear a thin, close fitting shirt w/o worrying about rolls

hike and keep up with my friends w/o feeling like the fat one

run with my friends (though they do have to slow down a little for me... oh well! )

wear shorts w/o them riding up between my thighs

Here are a few things I've been able to do:

Buckle the seatbelt in an airplane seat without needing an extender

Put the tray table down in an airplane seat even if the seat in front of me is reclined

Run around and play with my kids

Keep up with my husband when we go someplace

I also have noticed many others that people have listed here but didn't want to repeat.  It is amazing how many things I was missing out on and didn't even realize it.

Pam

at 27 with a 6 yo daughter, I can now wear the dress I wore to my senior prom with out trying to squeeze into it! (there's no size tag on it though darn it!) I did that last year and I nearly cried!

- Wear a size M

- Run for more than a mile without stopping, and have it feel GOOD instead of like my heart is about to explode

- See my feet

- Walk up stairs without panting

- Smile at people Smile

-Cross my legs (I love this)

-My pants actually stay put for the most part now and I'm not constantly pulling on them because they have a weird fit around my midsection.

-Hike miles without getting winded.

-Walk for miles around town without feeling tired or sore.

-Wear knee-high socks or boots (my calves were too thick for any of that)

-Shop in regular stores and I even find things in vintage stores or goodwill that fit

-See my feet

-Wear skirts that are above my knees because I'm no longer self-conscious about my legs (they're still thick but they are looking gooood and more muscular)

-Sit without crossing my arms over my belly to try and hide how huge it is.

  • find pants that actually fit me
  • be comfortable naked
  • run up the stairs and not feel like i'm going to die
  • look forward to working out
  • and my biggest thing: do TRIATHLONS!

shop in "regular people" stores

my purse strap stays on my shoulder

my feet are smaller

got a new driver's license photo

-dance all night without getting sore knees
-wear jeans and feel good about it
-wear a smaller size in general
-feel much less self conscious, but at the same time feeling really good about how I look and having fun with new clothes and stuff
-feel compassionate towards people who are overweight (I used to be really judgemental...somehow that changed when I lost weight, go figure)

-fit into the pants that were getting too tight last spring (ok, so now they are too baggy, but that's a fine problem to have!)
-fit into more different kinds of clothes, especially kinds of pants (i.e., straight cut)
-not worry about my wedding ring getting too tight, it comes off easily now instead of with a struggle

-feel satisfied with only 1 ounce of potato chips (now that is an accomplishment!)

  • my hubby can lift me up!
  • my clothes from before i gained weight now fit me loose!
  • I can shop at stores I've always wanted to shop at
  • I can fit into a size 8!!! thats a single digit size! (never been there before)
  • I look more my age (33) if not younger!
  • low rise jeans dont look gross on me anymore!
  • I can take my shirt off in front of  my hubby and not feel like he thinks i'm gross (even though he says he never ever thought that of me before anyway)
  • I go to school and I can fit into those little desks and actuallu hav room to move around in them!
