Things to do...

I thought it would be nice to start a thread about things to do in and near the Twin Cities.

On June 13th there is an organized bike ride near St. Cloud.  http://www.lakewobegontrails.com/caramelroll. htm   It is close enough so you don't have to stay over night.  You can pick a route from 6 to 30 miles long.  It should be a nice way to start out the summer.  I've not done this ride before, But it is pretty short so it shouldn't be a problem.

I have done the annual Great River Energy Mesabi Trail of 9 - 50 miles several years in a row, http://www.mesabitrail.com/great-river-energy /the-ride/ .  I've done the whole 50 mile ride even though every year I think I'm going to find time to build up to a long bike ride, but with kids activities and yard work it doesn't work out.  But the ride is beautiful even though I'm haven't been very prepared for it.  There are a lot of really nice people and a picnic and music and activities at the end of the day.  This year the Mesabi ride is August 8th.  I'd recommend staying up there both Friday and Saturday night and making it a mini family vacation.  My step-son is really looking forward to the trip this year.  He is 15 and it will be his 3rd year in a row to do the entire 50 miles.  Unfortunately, he usually has to slow his pace so I can keep up.
