Just watched this on iPlayer - very interesting. Thanks for mentioning it. Will go make some lentil soup now.
I will confess that most of it I knew but it was an eye opener for my Mum! She keeps cutting my portions to miniscule when we go up to stay, this let her know that me with 10 stone to lose I need to eat enough to keep going!

Hi Katrina,
this was a BBC documentary made by a Dr. it was really good, not alarmist very sensible and with lots of experts talking about their research.
Lets see if I can remember them all
1 Use a smaller plate. fool your brain into thinking you're eating the same
2 Avoid lots of bits and pieces on the table (buffet style) the brain likes variety and will want to try everything
3 Eat soup , especially thick soups as they stay in the stomach longer and help you feel fuller
4 Eat a high protein breakfast. proteins make the body produce chemicals that tell you you are satisfied
5 Exercise not only burns calories while you do it but also means that you burn more calories when you are not excercising so get out and about
6 Track your food and drink intake honestly - like on this site. we tend to forget and dsicount little bits we eat and they all add up
7 Low fat dairy is good in moderation as it binds with other fats and you poo more fat out
cant remember any more but if they come back to me I'll let you know
All the very best
Beth
Beth that is fantastic!! Thanyou for getting back to me. Really great advice! Going to take action on those points.

I remembered a couple more
Dont skip meals as the brain then reacts to seeing high calorie foods in a more positve way then seeing low calorie foods so eat little and often
Move about just a little bit more. A radio presenter was filmed and she decided to walk up stairs instead of using lifts and escalators and she presented her show standing up and even this small ammount of extra activity had a significant effect. So perhaps if you have a sedentary job, look for opportunities to stand or walk round. ( I always stand when on the phone becaause it helps me psychologically too especially when I am having "difficult" conversations I feel more empowered, but perhaps thats just me)
