There's a nice botanical garden that might be fun.  Also, the countryside around Pittsburgh is just beautiful.  You could check out activities on the river.  West of Pittsburgh, over the Ohio border, you can visit the Homer Laughlin China Co.  They make Fiestaware, among other things.  You can arrange a tour of the factory and they have an outlet store.
Just got back from Pitts last week. Weather was wonderful in 70's . I grow up there and took my granddaught last year. On Sundays the museums are free. The gardens are beautiful . the zoo is great. Down town pitts the science center with Imax theater. The kids love the science center and there is a submarine on the river. You can then go up to Mt. washington and have dinner and ride the trolley up and down the hill over looking the river. We went to kennywood park (amusement park) has been there since 1927. Great place still. Had our school picnics there. Tons of stuff to do in pitts. Go online to pittsbugh, pa. events. Have fun.
I have family in the area and they tell me that the zoo is pretty nice (I also have a 3 and 6 year old and they love animals) and my mother in law take the kids to Idelwile (some kind of theme park). Have a great time!

You really should take in a pirates baseball game. The stadium is new and awesome, it was just voted the best stadium. It is a fun place. Take in a nite game if you can, since the stadium overlooks the city.
Thanks guys!  Idlewile is another place we were thinking of too.

Claire- Rylee would probably love the botanical gardens!  and you know I would!
