Thinking ahead too much!

Quote  |  Reply

I have been into this system for almost twelve weeks and really liking it!  My problem is I seem almost obcessed with thinking about what my next calories will be!  Any thoughts on when or if this will ever go away?

If you think something's going beyond 'enthusiasm' to 'obsession' then it's time to take a step back.   One thing you could try is to plan your day (or week) in advance.  Do all the thinking about calories in one hit, write it down (or put it in the food log) and then it's out of your head.  All you have to do then is follow your plan.

After 12 weeks you should also be getting a better idea of what the right amounts of food are.... See if you can think more about portion-size, variety and balance when it comes to meals rather than purely 'calories'.  If you can do that it's rather more relaxing but no less effective.

Jane,

I may have exaggerated the "obsession" comment.  But I am looking forward to the day it is just the way it is.  I am definitely getting better at the "eyeing" of food.  Doing really well eating out, and enjoying being able to do so and still stay within my parameters.  But I have to admit to thinking ahead to the next meal a bit much.

By the way I have been planning meals for over 50 years and planning a week ahead has never been in my schedule but your idea about the day sounds doable.  Since there are just the two of us these days we tend to make meals out of leftovers that would never be around in years past............and I like it because it keeps me out of the kitchen which is a good thing.

Thanks for your good advice.

its awful, right i am planning my next meal before i eat the first bite of the one i am making it is impossible to fully enjoy something,  plan a day ahead everything or even a few days ahead and make it perfect so then you wont think about it so much becuase its already written down

I do the same thing, planning out what my meals will be for the day and counting back and forth as I change my mind during the day.  I'm a math person so I actually find it very theraputic....I'm not sure if I'll ever really stop, maybe just the exact calories, when I reach my goal, but not portions or planning.

Here's my story:

I used to count. I didn't have a life. I was always hungry and thinking about what I could eat next. I didn't lose any weight either. Now I eat when I am hungry. I know what is healthy and what is not healthy. I make the right decisions and pair it with exercise. I am already losing weight. I am a lot happier too!

It's working for me!
