Thirsty!!
I've been super thirsty lately. I usually drink about 10 glasses of water daily. However in the last week or so I have been SO thirsty all the time, I've been drinking more like 15-17 250ml glasses of water daily. I watch my sodium intake and have not been eating any more sodium than usual. I also have a relatively low alcohol/caffeine intake so I don't think I'm actually dehydrated.
Anyone have any ideas about what this crazy thirst could mean?
It's most likely nothing, but I would see your doctor. Extreme thirst is one of the most common signs of diabetes, as well as some other nasty diseases. It'd be good to get checked out and make sure everything is normal.
Excessive thirst can be a sign of high blood sugar and diabetes. See here for more info and go see a doctor if necessary.
It means it's time to go and get your bloodsugar level checked to make sure you're not diabetic... a suddenly increased thirst isn't a good sign.
It's probably good to be checked - but it also could be that with the colder weather (depending where you live) people turn on the heat, and it is usually dry heat, making the humidity in the air much lower. This could contribute to your thirst.
Thanks for all the advice. I am a healthy weight - does this make it any less likely that it could be diabetes? My BMI is 21.

Being overweight raises the risk of diabetes, but people can be at a healthy weight and be diabetic too. The only way you'll know for sure it to get your blood sugar tested. It could be something completely different causing your thirst.
Hmm. Well, I have no family history of diabetes but I have a doctor's appointment soon anyway so will definitely ask about that while I'm there. Thanks again! :)
since you already have a docs appointment coming up i wuld suggest just drink more water!!! lol.. i have times when im extremely thirsty.. and i just drink more.. are you adding more water when you exercise? if not that could be a reason why your so thirsty..
I do drink water after I've exercised. But usually it still only adds up to about 10 glasses a day and that always seemed like plenty lol. The temperature here (NZ) is still pretty mild so it's not like I'm sweating a lot. I have even been getting up in the night to drink water lol... crazy... at least I'm not getting up to raid the pantry I guess! ![]()
