I thought I knew how this weight loss thing worked...

So yesterday, I stayed right at maintenance, swam for a little while, so basically broke even calorie wise. That being said, I ate an exorbitant amount of sodium, and when I got on the scale this morning I fully expected it to be way up, but guess what.....lowest ever! I don't get it....I thought I knew what I was doing but apparently the weight just comes off when it feels like it!

I FEEL THE SAME WAY. THE DAYS THAT I THINK ARE GOING TO BE HORRIBLE ARE THE GOOD ONES & THE ONES THAT I'VE WORKED MY BUTT OFF FOR I END UP WEIGHING MORE. WHO KNOW? BUT GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY!

the day after that im guessing the result isn't as good. I think this is because your body takes around 24 hours to catch up. If you exercised tuesday night you wouldn't expect to see the results until thursday morning but dont hold me to that

Its nothing more than temporary fluctuation.  Don't ever take a day-to-day sample as anything too important.  Could just be that all the sodium dried up alot of the water in your system, killing off a bit of weight.  Either way, no meal or one day period can alter your weight in any significant and lasting way, only in a short term manner.

It may be a result of what is called zig-zagging. Your body gets use to the low intake of calories and hangs on to what you are consuming calorie wise. Then when you do something out of the ordinary with your diet, it shocks your body's system and taa daa you lose. Maybe that is it. Anyhow good luck on reaching your weight loss goal.
