Thoughts on 7 day Fruit/Vegetable Juice - Diet/Cleanse
I'm thinking about doing a juice cleanse that consists of fruit and vegetables in the juice format. I've read a few benefits on this, and I think I want to try it out.
So..... Today I thought I'd try it out (just for one day) I have had a mix of vegetable drinks and fruit drinks that I can buy at the grocery store. My stomach is somewhat growly but I dont feel too bad. I have had a lot of water and green tea and I think that has helped with the hunger part. Depending on how the rest of my day and my workout goes later, I may do a 7 day stretch next week. Have any of you done one of these? Positive? Negative? Neutral? useless? Let me know.

In my profile there is a bunch of foods listed for cleasing your body.
My best advice is to stay close to a tiolet, especially if you are making your own juices.
I would advise you to add some proteins and whole grains to your clease though, You don't want to be to hard on your body and your body needs all of the food groups.
juice fasts are very effective for a variety of issues, but NOT for weight loss. if you're not looking to lose weight through a fast, though, but are looking for other benefits, you will find a juice fast is great for cleansing and relaxing the body, and it can be a very spiritual experience, as well.
to reap the most benefits from a juice fast, you should use fresh-squeezed juice rather than juice from the grocery store (preservatives = not cleansing!).
BUT i would recommend just a three-day fast for a beginner, and ONLY if you have the approval of your doctor. it's important to listen to your body, and STOP FASTING if your body is telling you to!
I agree with everything said so far. I have done cleansing (never past the three day mark yet) but I have a juicer and wouldn't recommend doing it with store bought juice. I also used a protein supplement and a few other herbs as well. It is a great experience and gave me a total new outlook on food and health in general but shouldn't be done for weight loss. Only for a cleanse, physical, emotional, or spiritual. Good luck!
i tried a 3 day fruit and veggie cleanse... it did jump start my weight loss BUT by the night of the third day I was SO irritable that when my boyfriend started eating wheat thins in front of me i literally grabbed the box out of his hand, stormed out of the room and proceeded to eat the entire box. I just snapped!! lol.
well... My trial day went well, I think the mass amounts of green tea helped keep my cravings down. I have warned the dudes at work that I may turn into a mad man when I'm doing this. We'll see how long it lasts.
I'm really doing it because I feel like I'm hitting a wall with my nutrition and weight... so its time to switch it up.
I don't really see the point to a "cleanse." Your body cleanses itself; that's what your liver and kidneys are for. It makes no sense to do it for weight loss because you will significantly slow down your metabolism so as soon as you go back to eating your normal diet, you'll pile the weight back on.
I think wakeupcall's post says it all.
i have done cleanses before where i cut out all additives, sugar, alcohol, wheat, gluten, meat and dairy except yogurt/buttermilk in the morning. I did it once for 6 weeks. You get very used to it but you need those whole grains and soy products and nuts and seeds to give yoru body what it needs to function. I did a lot of yoga at the time too and added some herbal supplements. I was a lot more balanced and had lots of energy. I noticed my mood was etremely stable and i dont usually have ups n downs.
It took a week or so to get into but then it was easier (with support from all my friends yay). And even thougth i felt great i dont want to give up all those foods for the rest of my life. I am now eating everything in moderations which is the way to go for me and I have not gotten to a point again where i feel i need the cleanse.
I did a Veggie9 cleanser and I lost 30 pounds in a month. I feel great now :)

What is a veggie9 cleanser?
I have done a day of:
just fruit juice, vegetable juice and Soy Milk (for protein) (total around 2000 calories)
... per week for the last three weeks.
I like the idea of cutting out gluten alcohol dairy for at least one day a week, I'm not sure if its done anything, but I am still doing it for some reason. I believe it has helped me drop an extra couple of pounds.

EXCELLENT CLEANSE GOOD FOR YOU!!!
When doing this at the start there is a shock to your system...what I do is take 1/2 glass of juice, mix in 1 or 2 Table spoons of rolled oats and drink. Do this a few times a day, until your stomach has adjusted to the the cleanse. The oats will stop any diarrhea that is possible with drinking this much vitamin C. Also sure to drink some of the pulp too for more fibre.
Your he first one I have heard suggesting a cleanse...I have been slammed by everyone for suggesting it. Please tell everyone the good points..and direct the comments to Gi_jane!!
A lot of times, if you add up the calories from the fruit and vegetable juices, you'll find a whole day's worth add up to about 500-800.
Is it really a cleanse or a super low calorie diet that lasts a day or longer?
You might be better off just skipping it.
