Some Thoughts On The Gym
I have been back at it for 7 weeks now, and I do love the new Y!!! Gets me out of the house, and I feel like I am getting back into feeling lean even if I don't look it yet.
But besides that there are just some things I have been pondering as I workout everyday.
First is how can someone come to the gym in street clothes, workout, and then leave in those same street clothes. Esspecially when it's all of 10 degrees out!
Guess that kinda leads to the next one, which is how do these people not sweat? I see it all the time even in folks wearing workout clothes. They don't sweat, while I'm sweating like a pig!
And the last of this silly little rant, but I only see a handful of people stretch before or after a workout! Maybe they are afraid they'll break out into a sweat or something, but to me a workout has to be finished with a good stretch.
But I do love the place, and what getting back to hard core workouts is doing for me both phyically and mentally!!!
Gotta love that Y!!! ![]()
Ah yes, I see it all the time too ... people beside me in spin class looking fresh as a daisy and then me looking like I sprung a leak. Simple fact is that sweating is your body's cooling system, and the more fit you are the faster you start sweating (I know, lovely side effect) - your body recognizes sooner that you're exercising and it will need to regulate body temp. I also think that if someone isn't sweating during a workout (particularly a cardio work out) then they're just plain not working out hard enough. Even on my 'recovery' work outs when I purposely keep my heart rate low I work up a sweat.
I look like a dieing pig when I'm in the middle of my workout. My complexion goes completely ruddy and I sweat everywhere.
My gym buddy never broke a sweat, and I wondered how until I looked over at her machine and it was on resistance 1 while mine was on 8!
Just shows that people can look like they're doing a lot at the gym, but if they aren't huffing it's not a real workout!
And some of us just sweat differently. I've never sweat a lot, even when it's 110F out (which has lead to heat exhaustion). When my heart rate is at about 85% of max during cardio, I'm sweating a bit, but not a much as a lot of people do. And at that pace, I'm definitely working hard for me. But for others, it may just be a light workout. It's OK; we're all different.
As for the street clothes, well that's just ICK. LOL.
And I also don't stretch before hand, but I definitely do afterwards. Otherwise, OUCH.
