If you're working out alot, you might be burning fat, but gaining muscle. Since it weighs more, it might be misleading you to believe you're not getting anywhere. Have you taken your measurements? You're probably alot tighter, which to my mind is a more accurate way to measure success than just lbs. Lbs will go up and down over the day, but an inch gone stays gone. ^_^
Also it takes time for the body to burn process ect..you wont see results instantly..give it a couple of weeks..I gained 2 lbs yesterday but thats one day..my overall week should still show a small loss..give it time..:)
Have you tried giving yourself a day off from working out? Although I'm chomping at the bit when I do that, I usually find my body needs that rest to regenerate. Then, the next day, I find the scale going down. It seems strange, but it's true. Also, don't forget to drink water...especially during heavy exercise. You don't want to dehydrate yourself.

If you're burning off close to 1,000 calories or so...you should probably eat around 1400 cals or more so you have enough to burn off. Just a few suggestions.

It will come off...caroleanne. It WILL or I'll scare it out of you! =)
neeners you are funny! I agree though! take a day of rest! relax- heck stay in the bed all day and give your body a full day of rest! I took off 2 days in a row this week (just being an emotional person) Feeling sorry for myself! The good that came out of it is I gave my body a physical break, mental break and an emotional break! I didnt realize how much I needed it! I woke up yesterday with a new fire lit and I worked my booty off! I wont go 2 days without exercise again, I really felt the burn yesterday! I woke up this morning and the scales had dropped! I feel like I look leaner too and it feels great. Give yourself a break, let your body rest and catch up with you. YOU deserve it and your body will thank you
I've been there caroleanne. I don't know why I have this obsessive need to weigh myself every day, I know that it would make much more sense to do it weekly but I just can't help it.

Also I know how hard it is to take time off. Personally, I find that If I don't go to the gym every single day, and make a point of it, like a streak that I'm trying to keep alive, I know that I'll get lazy and stop going, it's happened before. So now what I do, is I go every day even if I don't work out, just so I get in the habit of going. On Saturdays I'll usually swim, and then on Sundays I'll just go in for about a half hour, go through the routine of changing clothes, getting a locker, then I'll just go sit in the cardio room and read or watch tv for about a half hour or maybe go sit in the sauna for a bit. Then I'll shower, change and head home. It may seem like a waste of time but it really does a lot for me in the way of routine. I'm able to take my day off without feeling like I flaked out going to the gym.
Also, don't weigh yourself after you work out and it's more accurate to do it in the morning, after you evacuate.
I only weigh myself once a week.....it works for me! JUST ME!! nothing on....I feel it is more accuate then!
saldemundo, i like that idea you have about varying your workouts without breaking the routine of going to the gym every day.  that's really a good one.  never heard that suggested before, but i hope everyone reads it!
Thanks Elin, I hope it benefits someone else as much as it does me!
Don't feel like you are the only one this is happening to. I have had the worst week ever this week.  Tonight I was tired and only did cardio for 30 minutes.  I took the whole weekend off for the first time since I started on this site and low and behold 4 wonderful pounds are stuck to me today that I didn't have last week.  Makes me want to cry.  I over ate tonight from my dissapointment and plan on getting back on track tomorrow.  I haven't had this happen ever before.  Why this week?
See - I thought I was the only one! I have gained 6 pounds in the last 3 months doing the same thing. I haven't lost an inch either. POOHH
Look at your calorie intake and what it is made up of.  Once when I was in weight watchers, I could not lose weight - we analysed my intake and found out I had cut back too much fat!! Of all things!!  You need a certain percentage to burn the calories.  I was buying fat free everything!!  Now I just do Low Fat and I am losing a steady pound per week.  Keep on keeping on!!  But remember to live a little too - don't get so tunnel visioned on your weight that you forget to enjoy your life and put your feet up once in a while!  Listen to music and read a good book!  The soul needs to be fed too!  You will do this, hang in there!!
I totally agree with roxanned. While maintaining a low-calorie diet, it's also important to figure out WHAT you're eating...how much fat you're taking in, etc. If you want to be very strict, you should keep your fat intake at 20% or so of your overall consumption. Protein should make up the most (depending on what diet you prefer).
hi

i sometimes get on the scale and it says one thing, then 5 min later i can get on and it says another.

last week i GAINED 4 ounces. How? Who knows.... but I think you shouldnt base the whole thing on 2 or 3 days reading. Trust in the process.

If you are working out , drinking the water and eating enough protien to maintain your muscle mass, and in fact add more muscle, you WILL see fat loss.

Fat loss does not mean WEIGHT loss. Like everyone else who has posted, it may be that you are losing fat and gaining muscle. This is temporary anyway unless u are pounding at heavy weight lifting to bulk up. In the beginning we are repairing and toning existing muscle that has somewhat atrophied.

Soon that process will be over and if you work out to tone instead of gain you will  see your weight begin to drop fast.

You're probably gaining muscle!!!!

Hey all! It's been a while, but I just saw this post and since I...

HAVE A SOLUTION!..........I thought I'd post it anyhow.

You're saying you can't lose weight eating even 1100 calories a day?

THAT WAS ME, but i experimented until I accidentally invented an eating method and lost more than 70 pounds just by eating a certain number of calories in multiple small meals over 18 hours. It didn't matter WHAT I ate--though healthy food is the only intelligent thing to eat, in my opinion--what mattered was only the calorie count.

I've kept doing this more than a year now and haven't gained back an ounce. My doctor checked me out, and my health is excellent!I eat tons of veggies and fruits, and dairy, olive oil, grains, low fat proteins (a lot of protein), wheat germ, flax seed, probiotic kefir, pom juice, and so forth.

I'm all about being healthy which I was NOT when i was a blimp!

By spreading out your calories like this (about 1200 a day or more), your body cranks into HIGH METABOLISM GEAR and just melts the pounds. It is pretty  much INSANE. :)

I hope this suggestion helps! I am out to fight obesity, one person at a time, so I would be thrilled if I helped anyone with this post.

Love
Beth

When was the last time you checked your thyroid? You might want to go see your Dr. and ask to have TSH levels checked.

If TSH is high it means your thyroid is probably not workig properly. Your thyroid hormones play a huge part in metabolism.
