Throwing away the old clothes?

Quote  |  Reply

When should be a good time to toss the old clothes that don't fit anymore.

I've gone down a size or two, and now have a bunch of clothes that don't fit anymore. When is a good time to get rid of those clothes? I'm afraid to throw away the old clothes and then gain the weight back and need them.

Any advice?

I just last night went through two small closets full of the dress shirts and pants I used to wear to work.  Some of the white shirts weren't quite good enough to give to charitable organizations, so I tossed most of them.  I did have some decent pants to give away and some cargo/safari shorts that I had bought last year that still look nice.  Like you, I was a bit nervous of getting rid of these, but I, too, have made a definite decision to make my weight loss permanent.

I agree - donating your clothes is a great thing to do.  I too had decided I wouln't want to wear the 12/14 sizes again.  I work in a business environment and had suits, coats, blouses, etc.  I donated to a local women's organization similiar to Dress for Success.  I couldn't believe how many clothes I had until I piled all of them in my car!  It made things feel even better that I may be helping someone else too.

I've reached this problem too! I've been going through my old clothes while asking myself two questions:

Are they nice clothes? Is practical to get them altered?

If yes to both, get them altered. If they're nice, but can't be altered easily/too expensive to alter, give them away to charity/friends.
