I'm really depressed with the weight loss issue. I'm 46 yrs. old and my weight is 153. I would love to lose 25 to 30 lbs. but I can't. I have an underactive thyroid problem. I have tried green tea, diet pills, etc. Does anyone have the same problem I have? Please give me some suggestions. I have also limited my calorie intake to 1200 calories a day. That's not working. I hope there are some women in the same boat as I am that has had success with weight loss. HELP!

Angie, are you taking medication for your hypothyroid? There are many, many threads in health and support about this issue. There's alot of us here that are hypothyroid!

Yes....I have my thyroid checked every 6 months and the reading is normal. The only thing they tell me to do is eat 1200 calories a day. The doctor put me on a diet pill and I lost 5 or 6 lbs. I know there are other woman that have gone through the same thing I have and I would like to hear there stories.
If you have hypothyroidism and are sufficiently medicated then there should be no difference between you and the next person as far as weight-loss potential. I have lost 25 pounds in the last 5 months and I have had hypothyroidism for 8 years. One tip I have learned is that some medications, supplements, and foods interfer with the absorption of your thyroid medication that means it may not be correcting your thyroid levels properly. You should always take your pill first thing in the morning on a empty stomache and then no calcium or iron for at least 2 hours. For example, I take my pre-natal vitamins at night before bed. Then in the morning when my husband's alarm goes off I take my thyroid pill and go back to sleep. An hour or so later when the kids get up I get up and start getting dressed and making breakfast. That gives my body a headstart on absorbing my thyroid medication before I eat breakfast (since I HAVE to start the day with a cup of coffee with cream). I take my vitamins at night so they can be absorbed while I am sleeping and the iron and calcium won't interfer with my thyroid.
Good Luck to you, and be sure to have your homone levels checked regularly so that if you are undermedicated they will catch it before you fall too far behind.

The medication I'm taking is Levoxyl 125 mg. I take it first thing in the morning with my coffee. I'm taking vitamins and usually take them around lunch. Keep coming with the suggestions. I know there must be something I'm doing wrong that this weight won't come off. I drink 3 to 4 cups of hot green tea a day. I figured this would be better than coffee. Craving sweets and carbs is a big problem too. Any suggestion on how to stop the cravings?
I probably drink 8 glasses of green tea a day instead of water. Could this be one of my problems? I heard of all the great benefits there is with drinking green tea. Is there such a thing as too much green tea?
