Today I added more calories to my lunch. I noticed that when i eat a heavy lunch i become tierd. This is bad because i really just want to curl up and take a nap but i have so much to do! Does anyone else suffer from this? How do you overcome it? If so do you have a overactive thyroid?
I get extremely tired also. My thyroid has been checked as well as many other things. My doctor told me I was extremely healthy according to all the tests. The best thing that has worked for me is to take a walk around the block. No matter how tired you are. Also, eat some of your calories while you walk. As long as its a slow pace, you should be okay.
Another thing is deep breathing, I've gotten into yoga and you'd be amazed how much better you feel when you listen to your breath.
I always get tired and sluggish after a heavy lunch, so I've started eating smaller lunchtime meals and making up the calories by having one or two small, healthy snacks in the afternoon. Like minda32581 said, getting out for a half-hour walk at lunchtime also keeps me awake.
I think this is very common - that's why they have a siesta time! :) I agree with the walk and I also have a diet mountain dew at about 2 pm.
I used to have this problem terribly. I mean to the point where I would doze off at my desk! The above suggestions are all good ones. Try spacing your calories out more evenly so you don't load up at one time. It will keep your blood sugar more stable. This is why most nutritionists/diet programs encourage you to eat 6-7 small "meals" a day instead of 2-3.
Some of the problem could also be what you're eating for lunch. In taking to a personal trainer, it was suggested that I try to eat foods that take longer to digest and break down. Foods that cause your blood sugar to spike immediately and then drop way off leave you REALLY tired within 30 minutes or so of eating.

Thanks for all of your help. I think i am going to try to eat smaller meals a day. although this seems like such a difficult task, especially because if i eat a snack before lunch i may not be hungry to eat more later, especially because i am always running around at work at school etc. I def think that i need to try that anyway because i may progess in my gaining weight plan
