Squats and lunges will help your butt and thighs. Also, walking on an incline is suppsed to help, but I'm not sure about that one.
walking up stairs. Every MWF, I have a class that is on the 9th
floor, and I take the stairs instead of the elevator. It really
works your butt.
there are a bunch of kickboxing moves that really work your butt too (back kicks and side kicks)
using steps is good too, particularly if you are stepping up quite high (like on a stool or chair)
i agree about the squats and lunges - they're wicked if you use weights (or resistance bands)
you can also modify them doing one legged squats, side squats with a step, jumping squats, and walking lunges, front/back/side lunges, lunges onto a step, lunges with your back leg on a step, curtsy-like lunges - i'm sure there's a ton more but that's all i can muster up at this late hour
hope that helps

Walking Lunges work for me... and running... all your leg muscles whip into shape.
Also... use the balance ball(core ball .. whatever it's called?) it gives a nice toned look and works your core too. bonus.

Carmen Electra's First striptease dance workout is KILLER on your butt. mine hurt for 2 days after. It might not seem like it at first, but man...
At the gym, there's this machine that works with the squeezing of the theighs - it's supposed to tone the butt and theighs, and BOY does it work! My bum used to be, well, flab, like most people's. But now it's good and firm. :) Same with my theighs!
I have no idea what the machine is called. But I hear squats are good. Also, lay on your back, knees bent. Using your bum/theigh muscles, lift your hips and bum up, kinda like a 'pelvic thrust', haha! This will help tone your bum. Good luck!

One word: STAIRS.
Squats are great, lunges are fantastic, but both of them can be a little hard on your knees. The one exercise I've found that consistantly tones the glutes and entire thigh is stairs. It's a hell of a calorie burner, too, depending on the amount of effort you expend.
