tilapia casserole recipe anyone?

Quote  |  Reply

So I went and bought a bag of frozen tilapia.  I cooked one and didn't like it.  I am not a big fish person but I am trying to do better.  Does anyone have any casserole recipes for fish where the taste is masked?  I like tuna casserole... has anyone ever tried it with other types of fish??

I haven't used any for casserole, but I like to sprinkle them with parmesan cheese.  The tilapia doesn't have a very strong "fishy" taste, and the parmesan tends to give it a nice flavor.

I bet it would work just fine in a casserole.

lorime,  Go to allrecipes.com and type in tilapia on the search. You will find many different, good, and flavorful ways to prepare it. Usually, when people don't like a particular type of light, white fish, such as tilapia it is because of the way it was prepared. Don't give up and throw it into a casserole too quick. ;)

If you like hot ground red pepper, sprinkle some of that on and rosemary before putting in the oven for 8-10 minutes.  Tilapia is pretty much non-fishy and non-flavored... so I spice mine up.

I'll give it a try- I did see a few recipes that didn't look too bad but I think it would still be better mushed up in a casserole...  I'll keep looking....

Make a batch of Low Fat Cheese Sauce adding 1/2 cup more of milk.
Grill or pan sear the tilapia, cool and flake in large flakes
Saute fresh mushrooms, chopped onions, celery and green bell peppers in a little olive oil or healthy margerine until soft.  Add minced garlic if desired.
Combine everything, taste and adjust seasonings, and dump into a 9" square baking dish.
Top with bread crumbs
Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes or until bubbling and golden on top.
Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Serve with rice or noodles and a salad.

I agree, tilapia is just a basic whitefish so any recipe for whitefish should work.  I use egg white, reg ms. dash and shredded parm and fry it in a little spray for a yummy crust.  Served with salsa is good too!

I bake it. Season it with red pepper, paprika, onion and garlic powder. Chop mushrooms, peppers and onion and put on top. A little lemon juice. Then eat it over brown rice or with a sweet potato.

Thanks guys!!  I will have to try all these options...  :)

This recipe is so good I even eat it cold and I am not a fish lover!

Melt 1/2 stick of butter and add 1/2 cup of soy sauce.  Dredge your tipila filets through the mixture (after mixture taken off the burner) and set aside. Slice up 1 red pepper and a small onion and put into to baggie and add the remainder of the leftover "sauce".  Heat grill on high and add peppers and onion to grill pan.  Once they start to cook add fish and cook until flaky.  Put into to serving bowl.

Trust me I LOVE this dish.

Another recipe I use all the time for most any fish and it is so simple is:

Hoisin sauce and chinese 5 spice.  Lightly spread hoisin on both sides of filet and lightly sprinkle chinese 5 spice on both side of filet.  You can then bake or grill your fish until done.

I think this is my most favorite way to have fish!
