What time do you all wake up?

Quote  |  Reply

I am trying to become more consistent with the time I wake up...(and the amount of time taken to actually get out of bed!).

I am trying for 7:00am each morning as a starting point, with views to maybe get a bit earlier so I can start doing a cooked breakfast.

But am having a few issues bringing my weekend wake up times in line with my week day times. Not to mention the time between "wake up" and "get up"

So what time do you CC members all wake up?
Have you always been consistent across the week?
Does it help kick start the metabolism?

7 am every morning. i don't really know how someone can say whether or not it kick starts their metabolism. how would you judge that? it does get easier to wake up early when your body gets used to it. i don't even use an alarm!!

I get up at 5:30, give or take 20 minutes (some mornings I have longer workouts scheduled, and other days shorter).

I don't think it kick starts the metabolism any, but since I'm awake earlier, I eat my first meal earlier, and so my snacks and lunch are earlier than they would be if I woke up 2 hours later.

I have to get up at 7 am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and 8 am on Thursday and Saturday, for classes M-F and DJing on Saturday.

On Sunday I tend to wake up naturally at 8:30 or 9, but I tend to stay up a bit later Saturday night as well.

I've always been pretty consistent. I'm one of those people that needs 9-10 hours of sleep to function. So in high school when I woke up at 6, I'd wake up at 7:30 or 8 on weekends, because during the week my normal sleep time was restricted by working until 9:30 at night.

I don't know what you mean by kick starting my metabolism. I get up at 7 or 8, eat breakfast at 7:30 or 8:30, which consists of a bowl of cereal of the recommended serving size. On my 7 am wakeup days, I'm hungry by 11:30, and on my 8 am days, by 12:30. Some days I know I'm hungrier for some reason, and have to have a midmorning snack...which can mean eating more than I would if I was sleeping later. That would require breakfast at 9, lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 5:30 or 6. Maybe a little snack before bed. I cut down on breakfast in case I felt like having a little meal, not just eating for prevention...eating because I'm hungry.

Does that help?

Thanks your your replies.

To clarify the 'kick start' - I am wondering if getting up earlier inherently makes you more active, as a result of simply moving around for longer each day, having time to work out and using that time to exercise, or being able to spread your meals out over a longer time frame?

Has anyone noticed an increase in their weight loss rate after being a late sleeper, and changing to a person who now gets up earlier?

I have a very wacky schedule at my main job( i work 2 jobs) i work affternoon-and night shift- so one week i wake up around 11am and another its like 8:30 or 9am its very crazy

I think being awake for more hours will probably burn more calories.  If you think about it, being asleep is the ultimate form of inactivity.  On the other hand, if you're dragging butt all day because you didn't get enough sleep then you will probably burn less calories throughout the day.  And to answer the question, I get up at 5 every day, but sometimes I sleep in until 6.  I usually get up around 6 on the weekend just out of habit.

I have to say it doesn't seem to make any difference in my weight loss progress.  I'm retired and I get up when I feel like it.  There are weeks when I'm up at 5, just as I was when I was working.  Then there are days when I sleep longer and get up when I no longer need more sleep.

Last week I had several days when I slept until noon after being up late, and I had a larger weight loss last week.  As I said, it makes absolutely no difference.

Mine used to vary (anywhere from 4:45am to 9am), but now that my husband has regular hours I wake up every day at 5am hit the snooze three times and get up at 5:30am :)

I don't really notice any difference in anything (weightloss or otherwise) with the single exception of what time I wake up on weekends - now it feels like 7am is sleeping in!

I'm not really a 'morning person' and given the choice DH would be a true nightowl... I go to sleep between 11 and midnight or so, and I get up at about eight o'clock. I wake up at the same time every day, but DH sleeps as late as he can - I wake him up when it's time for him to get up for work (he very rarely has to get up early) and on the weekends I wake him at 9-9.30 because that's quite late enough to sleep! If I happen to wake up early I'll get up then, and that makes the day seem incredibly long...

School days: 6 o'clock in the morning

Vacation Days/Weekends: 8 o'clock in the morning...and then lay in bed for 20 minutes.

Since I gave birth to an early-bird baby eight years ago I'm up at 6 - 6.30am!  This means a 'lie in' is a thing of the past but I rather like mornings anyway.

Does it help weight-loss?  I think it does.  Not because of metabolisms but due to sheer practicality.  Because I have a good hour and a half to ease myself into my mornings before I have to be out of the door this gives me time to make/eat a relaxed healthy breakfast & put together a healthy packed lunch.  Some mornings I've even prepped supper and put it in the oven on a timer before we leave!!  In the past when I've had less time to get my act together I've ended up dashing out of the door with a cup of coffee, resorting to a danish mid-morning and then making some equally poor choice for lunch.  Result... get very, very fat!!!!

i wake bout noon but i dont sleep till the early hours of the morning

I usually wake up around 8 in the morning (and that's my sleeping in days).  BUT if i have to work, and i'm only scheduled this 2 or 3 times a week but still, i wake up at 3:30 in the morning to get to work by 4am.  I work at a cafe/restaurant and we're 24 hours, so it's a little bit of a killer... and ruins the rest of my sleep schedule.  i learned how to take naps in bright, sunny rooms after i got this job.

around 6am monday through thursday, and 5am on friday (my work hours change). on the weekends i've been getting up a little before 7am. (i get hungry and i bring myself to work out first before eating breakfast, otherwise i just bum around all day!)

I use to get up at 5am and do my daily devotional and then have breakfast and then get ready for school.  Life happens and I have been slapping that alarm clock on a regular basis now for the last 3 or 4 months.  My goal starting this week is to get up at 5am and walk for 30-45 minutes---do my devotional---eat breakfast and get ready for work.  I have to be on campus no later than 7:35 each day.  Here is more about me.

My name is Tina.  I am 51, a school teacher of 15 years, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother.  I have battled my weight since 1983---lost 65lbs in 1992-1994---165 to 119---I had gone back to college, got divorced and went dancing 4 nights a week.  Then I had two drastic surgeries in 1994 and my mother died in 1999---and I watch my weight creep up to 192 over a period of the last 10 years.  I have tried many diets, etc---but "stress" and just not taking care of me has led to this.  I started working toward losing before Xmas---I am now at 179...my goal is 130 by September 30---my 52nd birthday.

My husband of 15 years has told me in the last week that he is unhappy and suffering from a mid-life crisis and I am not sure where this is headed.  I am very sad and hurt but trying to take life one day at a time and concentrate on being the best "me" I can be considering the pain and uncertainity.  I need all of the support and friends I can get at this point in my life.

Thanks for listening and I need friends to join my page.

Sincerely with HOPE!

Tina Marie

I get up at 5:45 on weekdays.  I can set my own work schedule and I like getting here early so I can leave early.  I get to work by 6:30 (live about 10 minutes from work if I hit every light red Laughing) and leave by 3:30 4 days a week (on Tuesdays I leave at 12:30, so I work an extra half an hour the other 4 days a week to make up for missing that 2 hours). On weekends, I sleep until my body tells me it's time to get up.  Depending on when I go to bed, it's anywhere from 8 in the morning to noon.

I get up at 6 30 most days, on days I need to go to the neighboring town, 5 30, and some weekends I'll sleep in til 7 30.  I like to get up early because it's my ME time...I can read the news, check CC, make a big breakfast, plan my day, heat water and bathe etc.  Plus if I can get hubby out of bed it gives us time to work out as well.  I like to have a really really long, slow morning around the house, it makes the whole day seem better.

I have. I had been an insomniac due to certain personal problems and stress, and gained maximum weight during those periods. The thing is, there are times when your body's glucose levels are lower, when your body should wake up and take food and times when it should be resting. By pushing the wake up time to....say...11 am,  one also pushes back the breakfast time, the lunch, the mid afternoon snack and so on.

Further, it also gives you the option of having a breakfast, which is very essential if you want to lose weight.

And to lose weight, you should have 5-6 meals every day, (to rev up the metabolism) and most of it should be thermic food. As well as, sleep for at least 8 hours per day.

Therefore,  if you start earlier in the day, it's easier to spread out foods during the day as well as easier to stick to an exercise programme. If you exercise in the morning or in evenings (around 5-7), you will feel sleepy around 11 pm.

Normally, I get up around 7:30 or 8 and 9-ish in the weekend, but I try hard not to push later than that.

And this habit has significantly helped in in my weight loss goals.

Good luck with your programme!!Smile

i wish i had a more regular sleep schedule; i tend to go to bed/wake up at regular times when i'm home from school on breaks.

unfortunately, college has me following an etremely irregular schedule. mon-fri i start class/work anywhere from 8-11. then sometimes on the weekend i'll end up sleeping until 11.

@oxsunrisesunset

I know what you mean! Class time and grad school can totally ruin your sleep patterns and play with your weight. Try to go to bed early....make a specific going-to-bed hour and stick to it.

The rest will fall in placeWink
