No time.... Help

Quote  |  Reply

A few months ago I was religious about going to the gym and yoga two nights a week. A months ago I started a second job and am not only working all the time but am exhausted. (Both my jobs I'm on my feet the whole time)  So consequently I've gained weight, had a harder time watching my food, and no time to go to the gym. Does anyone know any quick cardio exercises to do at home in the morning? I tried jogging and hate it. So any other suggestions would be great. How do other people with more than full time jobs find time to go to the gym?

One of the fastest ways to burn calories is skipping rope. If you have the space I used to take a skipping class at the gym, we did 7 minutes on with 1-2 minutes rest in between.

You do need to be patient with it, at first it will be hard to do 7 minutes and you may want to start with 5. But it's one of the best cardio classes I've done and after a while you do build stamina.

Check your TV listings and see if there are any workout shows that you can watch (or record, if they're on when you aren't home.)  If you have cable/satellite, see if you have a network called FitTV available; they have lots of great workout shows, many of which are 30 minutes (actually only about 24 minutes if you skip commercials.)  If you have FitTV, I highly recommend "Bodies in Motion with Gilad."  It's quick, it's never the same thing twice, and he really keeps you moving for those 24-ish minutes.  They're all older shows, though, so try not to laugh at the goofy 1990's gym wear.  ;-)

If you can't find anything on TV, check your library or DVD rental place for workout DVD's that specify time-saving workouts.

Either way, good luck!  I know it's hard when you're pressed for time, but I think it's awesome that you're trying to stick with your plan.

I work full time (commute about 3 hrs a day), have 2 small kids at home who need help with homework and a husband who leaves for work when I walk in the door so finding time to exercise is not easy!  I tend to adjust what I'm doing on "my schedule for the moment."  Righ now,  I've joined a gym near my job and run out at lunch time 3 days a week.  I bought a treadmill, handweights and stability ball for the house and TRY to use them on the nights I don't get to the gym at lunch.  Since its Spring time, it also means softball/baseball season for my kids which makes the time for me even tighter.  I've been walking the track at the field when my daughter is practicing when I can.  Its not easy but you have to be creative and try to just shove it when you can. I figure 35-40 minutes at lunch is better than nothing at all!  Good luck!

I too am struggling to fit the exercise in. A year ago I was managing a 45 min cycle ride and an hour of yoga most days. Now I'm lucky if I get to run 3 times a week because of extra work and kids. I'm fitting in a fast 20 minute run round the fields when I can (from my house - generally after kids are back from school).  I also have some workout videos with 10 minute sections and sometimes do a couple of those in the morning in between kids leaving for school and me leaving for work. It's a struggle, especially as I seem to be gorging more at the moment and hardly find time to blow my nose!!!

I struggle with the same thing you do!  I have a 14 year old, an 8 year old and a 6 month old.  I work full time.  By the time I get home from work and get homeworks complete, get kids to and from practices and take care of the babies needs - even with help from my husband - I am exhausted!  And still have to prepare something for dinner!   If someone gives you an idea as to how to get the workout in let me know.  I'm just so tired at night.  I don't want to get up earlier.  I just wish I had more energy!

Huh, some of your schedules sounds like they count like a workout in and of themselves. It doesn't need to be formal exercise to burn calories!

Try one of Paige Waehner's 10-minute workouts from the workout centre, or any of the others that you have the time for and which seems like fun - and realise that as long as you're not sitting down, your're working out. Sometimes, your life itself counts as one long workout!

check out this thread about Jillian Michaels 30-day Shred. It's 20-minute workouts that rock! I do it every morning right when I get up.
